UPDATE AT BOTTOM -Would this bother you? Regarding a recent purchase...

I don't really post much but want to hear what others think...

A few weeks ago I ordered a new car seat for DD - the Britax Marathon 70 - great sale price and it was on back order.

It came today and the box looks like it was opened - tape obviously pulled off, part of the writing on the box ripped off on the tape (does that make sense). Basically it is not factory sealed - so it's more than your usual rough look from being shipped.

I haven't opened it yet to see what the condition of the seat is b/c I want DH to see it first.

I'm annoyed because it is a brand new item - just came out this month - and while it was on sale - it was still a 'big' money item for us.

Not sure what I'm looking for - to see if others would be bothered by this...thanks in advance for your opinions!!

yes, I think I would be bothered by it since it sounds like it was opened. If it was just usual "bumps" from shipping - no. I would probably call the store and tell them it was obviously damaged (the box at least)

I would be bothered if the seat was damaged.

you can try and call up where you bought it and tell them the condition it arrived in. sometimes they will give you a credit.

I've had things get messed up in transit before.. it stinks!

just as an FYI, UPS and FEDEX do random inspections of boxes. they may have been the ones to open it and go through the box.

I've had packages from paper suppliers of mine look trashed inside and I know how these suppliers usually send things.

I also had sent something to a customer..programs for their wedding. I packed 60 in the box, 30 arrived..so somewhere between her and FEDEX the box was opened and 30 programs stolen

in any case, i'd be annoyed..but it could be the shipping company inspecting packages.

i would be annoyed too.. i hate it when the boxes are damaged. and not factory sealed.

call the company!

I bought a carseat from the store and the box was clearly opened. BUT the carseat had tags attached to it (attached with plastic just like price tags) so I know it wasn't used before. I was fine with it b/c I know it wasn't used. Open it up and see what's inside.

I didn't know that about inspecting the packages - it could be possible. I checked and there are no stickers / notices saying it was inspected. It makes me nervous that it was a return - I was under the impression I would be getting a brand new item. KWIM

Thanks for your thoughts! I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy :)

ETA: When DH gets home tonight we'll see what we have. If it has tags I'll feel better! If not then they will be getting a phone call Thanks again!!

Speaking as the person that inspects an item before putting in my cart (and goign throught the shelf to get the 'best' box ) I would say yes!

If the seat is fine (and pacakaged properly) then I would be okay with the condition of the box but if the seat itself looks like it was opened I (personally) wouldn't be happy.

So we opened the box and it turned out to be brand new - tags and all etc!

Even DH wondered what condition it would be in with the way box arrived! Whatever happened to it on its way here doesn't matter b/c it's perfect and DD was climbing all over it! She loves it :)

That would completely turn me off and I might have to return it.

I would check that the carseat was not "repackaged". That the straps are folding by the factory. It's easy to see if someone repackaged something. It's never "as perfect".

If it is, I would send it back.

I have actually limited my shopping with Amazon. They ship a lot of opened/retuned packages. One time I had them send me the item 3 times. Yes, I am THAT OCD. Finally they could not guarantee it was not a return, refunded my money for all the items I exchanged 3 times and I got it somewhere else.
