Unplugging?
Has anyone “unplugged” from social media/ their phone? I’m not a huge social media person but I do use it. I have wanted and tried “unplugging” before and I missed out on so much, missed out on party invites, pictures I didn’t see of family and friends etc. family telling me it’s better for them to see pictures of my kids on social media than it is to be texted and I just feel like it’s too much. I don’t want my kids to see me on my phone and for the most part if they are up and around I don’t. But I do feel social media gets in the way of life in general. My friend recently texted me and said she forgot to invite me to her party because I didn’t have Facebook anymore and I was like if you saw I didn’t have my account, why can’t you text me? Not text me weeks later?!? Anyone do it successfully?DH doesn’t have any social media but does use his phone more frequently for other forum outlets

Re: Unplugging?
No I have never tried it. Personally I like social media. I feel like it is a way to keep in touch so I don't really feel the need to unplug from it. For a while I was only looking on Instagram thou and I completely missed that a friends father passed away. I didn't find out until a week after the funeral had passed. So now I try to check facebook every few days. Unfortunately this is just how the world is now....

Unplugging?
I don’t use social media at all. Unfortunately, invitations still find their way to me.

Re: Unplugging?
I check my email and FB once or twice a day. I turned off all notifications. I don’t do more than that. I think if you schedule it nicely, then it works well into your time management.

Re: Unplugging?
I only use my phone for texts/calls. I email or text people. Almost everyone in my circle is extremely annoyed I've never had Facebook but I'm very happy about never having to see all the drama people speak of. I feel like I know who truly wants a relationship.

Re: Unplugging?
I use messenger to keep in touch with my family (we have a group chat) so its hard for me to delete it but I have tried just deleting the apps and that helped. I could still access it via the web browsing app on my phone but I was less likely to waste time going from app to app to app. lol.

Same here. I don't need to hold my phone in my hand all day long. I have friends who do, then claim they never got the call/text/FB message.

Re: Unplugging?
I got rid of FB for about 8 months or so I missed it at first but I think I may have been happier without it- I didn't know as much... lol I did have a fake FB set up to look for potential employees- I had no friends on that account I rejoined in the fall due to PTA/ school information, my DS is in kindergarten and I do find the school chat page informative and useful. I hide people who want to sell me ugly ass leggings and beach body crap.

Unplugging?
I rarely log into Facebook. Maybe once a month or so. Its just not a part of my daily routine - I don't think I am missing out on anything. We get invites and keep in touch with our friends.

This is the same with me. I don’t like to use my phone during the day and I have a big no phone at dinner and I rarely use my phone if I’m around my kids and I find people, even coworkers asking me a work related question outside of my work hours get mad when I don’t answer! I find it frustrating some of my friends/ family don’t want a text with a photo of my kids but yet want them on social media, I mean is that really even necessary?!

The ONLY way I have any idea what is going on in my area is through Facebook community page, other than that, I have no idea how I would stay up to date?

Re: Unplugging?
I have a FB but not on my phone. People on FB annoy me and make me angry, lol, but I keep it for school stuff, community pages...etc. I maybe check it twice a week.
I have an instagram...I check that daily, maybe once a day. I post maybe once a month but I like how i can follow what I want to follow and its mostly just fun and light stuff.
I have a snapchat but my only friends are my super close friends and fam and thats it.
Twitter...hell no.
And if someone only uses FB to send out invites, they are a moron. sorry, but seriously, that is ridiculous. there are a bunch of text invitation services to use these days if you dont want to do paper invites.

Re: Unplugging?
I don't have facebook. I don't ever feel like I am missing out. Friends send me pictures and will send the invite through email.
I also put my phone in another room around 7pm and don't look at my phone until the next morning.
So I kind of feel like I am unplugged to a certain extent.

Re: Unplugging?
I keep my phone in my work bag and just check email and social media after the kids go to bed, . That’s how I usually keep in moderation.

Unplugging?
That wouldn't work for me. It's how information is passed along in our schools, girl scouts, etc. My son's Autism groups are on there, many events scheduled through there, etc.

Re: Unplugging?
I just downloaded the app "Moments" it tells you how much time you spend on your phone. You can actually set limits for yourself or reminders telling you how long you've been on. It adds up so quickly!
