underwear for hospital?
i have a question. I heard that i am supposed to bring granny style loose shorts to wear at hospital after delivery. I also know that i will be bleeding as well and will have to wear a pad. so, won't i need something more fitting to hold pad in place? how does this work?

I wore those for the first night after I recovered with their pads. After a shower the following morning I put on my own think extra long always pads with hanes briefs and I felt like a million bucks! Good Luck!

I never had net underwear (nor heard of it, actually!)
Yes, granny panties may be the most comfy for you while you are recovering.
ETA: I see you wrote "shorts". I don't think that would be a good idea. You need actual underwear.

I actually loved the net/disposable underwear the hospital provided...i took some home and was eventually wearing them over granny style undies. True they do help to hold everything in place.
For the granny panties...I bought a bunch of white Hanes ones at CVS or target...they were great.

Yes, they have the disposable ones at the hospital, but once you shower, you are going to want to feel human. The pads the hospital gives are great...the first few days, I wore 2 at a time, side by side, sort of overlapping. Go to Target and get a 6 pack of Hanes briefs in a size larger than normal! I still wear them under dresses in the summertime!!!

Hospital gives you pads.
I know Stony Brook no longer gives the mesh underwear. At least when I was there last June.
I just brought older underwear that I didn't mind if it got stained.

Ditto. I delviered DS#1 there and will be delviering DS#2 there.
They only gave pads and no net underwear. I just took granny panties. I bled quiet heavily so they havd me put two pads on from front to back essentnially.

Yep, the hospital provided pads are the best! I wouldn't bother bringing from home since they will give you a ton and more to take home. I would bring the granny panties. The hospital should give you the disposable underwear as well. I used those right after delivery and then once I showered I wore my own.

Wore the net underwear the first night but changed into my own underwear and pads after my shower the next day. I just went to Target and bought a package of Hanes underwear. I brought my own pads. The one the hospital give you are freakin huge. I just bought Always infinity Heavy or overnight, can't remember. They worked great!!

If you go buy underwear to bring be sure to buy at least 1 size, maybe even 2, larger than you normally wear. I bought 1 size up, but they still did not fit me due to a crazy amount of swelling the last week and after delivery. I had to send my hubby out to buy more. Also if you think you might have a c-section, get high-waisted the band hits above your incision.

def high waste just incase you need a c section. you never know how delivery will go.
i didn't have granny panties that i needed and everything came up to just about where my incision was, even the hospital undies. it wasn't fun.
also... you do want something a little fitting.. as the pads you wear are mile long maxi's!!

I put the maxis and the peri pads (ice packs) into the mesh underwear, and then wore regular underwear over them. I really needed the ice packs that they provided, and the mesh underwear were so baggy that they didn't do any good. I needed some tighter underwear to hold that coldness up against me.

i used the mesh underwear with the pads from the hospital during my stay. when i got home i had hanes underwear. my hospital sent me home with 3 bags of pads so i used those instead of using the Always i had bought. i only bled for 1 week though!

I used the mesh undies in the hospital (Winthrop). I bought ugly, high-waisted Hanes granny panties from Target and wore those once I got home. (For $6 a pack, I didn't care if they got destroyed). I had a c-section, and couldn't wear my regular underwear for months b/c it sat on my incision.
eta: Definitely steal the pads!! I brought my own (the super-max Always that were as big as the baby, lol). I didn't need them though; I bled for three weeks but it was pretty light.

Dropping in from Parenting with a word of caution . . .
After hearing (on this board) about the mesh underwear they give you in the hospital I didn't bring any in with me when I went into labor. I had figured for the first few hours, or possibly the first day, I'd just use the hospital underwear and put on a hospital gown. I had a bag packed with all these things in the car but DD wasn't born until 5am and we were EXHAUSTED so I didn't make DH bring my bag in from the car before he headed home for some sleep. BIG MISTAKE! The hospital I delivered at doesn't have any mesh underwear so I had to waddle to the bathroom holding my pads in place with a plastic blue chucks they gave me. Let's just say that doesn't really work and I wound up with my pads falling on the floor. I also had my first visitor show up before DH got back with my bag.  Definitely doing that differently next time around!
Moral of the story . . . DON'T count on your hospital having these disposable underwear unless you check first!
