Un-freaking-believable - concerning the next surgeries

After everything was set in place for my 5th postpartum surgery on Tuesday, it was DENIED!!!!

Insurance had given the go ahead, with an authorization number and I scurried to find people to cover my shifts. I was in the process of finding help to watch DS. Then the call came this afternoon that the surgery was denied.

This doctor is not on my current insurance plan. But since he had done the first surgeries, insurance was allowing him to continue coverage. (Work changed insurance on April 1st.) Now they freaking deny it.

They said I can find another surgeon under their policy. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So now I have to go find another surgeon and go through all the testing again. I had the best!!!!!! And he wasn't finished!!!!!! I am beyond mad. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks for letting me vent.

I would appeal in writing and explain how it will cost them more for the additional testing etc.

I agree. It's definitely worth a shot. I've appealed something that was denied under the same premise - that it would cost them thousands of dollars more in denying it, not to mention put me through unnecessary testing again.

I agree with this as well Kelly. The insurance company MUST have an appeal procedure in place.

Oh my. Well, there are 2 ways to look at this.

If at first you don't succeed, appeal, appeal, appeal. There should be state mandated procedures in place.

or

Decide to pick your battles. If you can find someone else, great.
