Ultrascreen
To get it or not to get it? I know this is a controversial topic. I haven't decided yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm NOT going to get it. I feel that I would not terminate my baby regardless. What are your thoughts?

Re: Ultrascreen
I feel the same way about a lot of these screening tests done - I do a lot of research and go back/forth with it, and everyone comes to their own conclusions. I also would not think about terminating my pregnancy (even if these screenings did come back questionable..) .. the screenings are not 100% accurate, so I think "why worry myself more"
We did have the 12wk U/S and bloodwork done .. and thankfully everything came back great
Now our next decision is to have the AFP screening/bloodwork, which really concerns me, mostly because of the high 'false positive' rate I have a few weeks to think it over
Good luck in whatever you decide!

Thanks Felicia. So many different thoughts run through my head. The rate of false positives for one. My friend had one and thought her baby had downs and got amnio and he was fine. It's a very personal decision. I am almost positive that I will NOT get it done.

I was told that the ultrascreen does not have false positives, but the AFP test does, which is why Im not doing this. I did the ultrascreen, and everything came back normal.

Re: Ultrascreen
I was told the same thing as diane. there is not alot of false positives with the 12 week ultra screen.. so I just had mine too..
The ultra screen is basically a " screening" they do for downs.. if it came back negative ( which it did) I decided to NOT have the afp and the amnio...
I struggled with all the tests too but I think if you were gonna go with any of them the ultra screen is the one to do.. JMO

Re: Ultrascreen
To clarify, I agree with Diane and Jodi. I have read that the ultrascreen is a more 'accurate' screening than the AFP bloodwork.... so that is why I was a little more confident having it done..
The AFP really puts me off, because even if I did get a positive on it, I would go for the Level II and then stop at that. It's doubtful I would opt for the amnio (with my history of M/C , for ME I am just too leery...)
My 12 wk ultrascreen pic is in my profile.. it was technically 12wk 3days but who's counting

How cute Felicia!
What does the AFP test for? I'm not sure which one my friend got her false positive on but I do know that it was a false positive for Downs.

I agree. This is exactly what I did.

Here is a good link that probably describes it better than I can:
