Is an ultrascreen an internal sonogram? Thanks!! Also, about how long does the sono last?

Re: Ultrascreen
No. It is not an internal sonogram.
The whole thing lasts about 20 minutes.
Def a lot of fun.

Re: Ultrascreen
Do you have to drink water then? Or is that a thing of the past?

Re: Ultrascreen
Mine was external and I was never told to drink water for any of my sonograms. Give a call ahead of time to be sure--why have a full bladder if it's not required for you?
Good luck; it's a lot of fun!!

Re: Ultrascreen
I didn't have to drink, but they wouldn't let me pee before it.
It is external. It depends on baby's position regarding how long it can take - mine was face-down and would not cooperate so it took quite a while before we could get the images from the right angle. I was there about a half hour. Never mind that I went in a half hour late...
It's really cool, have fun!

Re: Ultrascreen
Yes, external.
Takes about a half hour for each baby. They are very thorough in the measurements, especially at the Level II. They took several pictures of everything you could think of.

Re: Ultrascreen
Mine was external but a friend of mine just went for one that was external and internal. It normally is an external only detailed ultrasound plus blood test. However, this varies from facility to facility and doctor to doctor. I had mine done at NSUH in Manhasset. I'm not sure where my friend had hers done (the one with the internal), but she was very upset afterward thinking something was wrong. As it turns out, it was standard procedure for this particular facility.

Re: Ultrascreen
First trimester is internal, second and third are external. The doctor likes a full bladder because they get a better reading. It's so amazing and cool. Enjoy.
