Re: Ulcerative Colitis
What kind of surgery? I have Crohn's which is similar - do you have specific questions? I joined a FB group that helps but also overwhelms because there are SO many different stages this can be at.

It kind of changes, there is no hard and fast rules. It seems everyone is different unfortunately. For me, seeds, hot sauce, and certain dairy foods will throw me into a flare. I avoid those as much as possible. The biggest trigger for me is stress so I try to keep as stress-free as humanely possible. LOL. Hopefully the fb group is helpful! I hope you have a quick and speedy recovery

Ulcerative Colitis
My friend just had resection surgery this week for diverticulitis. How are you feeling? Did you end up with an ostomy? My mom has colitis but has not required surgery. She stays away from dairy mostly

Re: Ulcerative Colitis
My sister in law has this and usually has to change her meds every six months or so when she has flare ups......i believe there are different levels or severity but diet and stress usually play a big part in her flare ups.She finds Facebook support groups to be helpful. Good luck!

Re: Ulcerative Colitis
I was just diagnosed last may, how long have you had the disease before you needed surgery?
I stay away from seeds, and caffeine. I did the Keto diet, and that made me feel amazing. I was doing great, and then cheated on it and can’t seem to get back into it and wish I would actually do it. But I really recommend it, it’s supposed to help with inflammation.
Hope the surgery helps you and that you feel better ASAP! If you ever need support or to talk don’t hesitate to FM me!

Ulcerative Colitis
Thanks ladies! I did not need an ostomy bag thank goodness, the dr was able to do what he had to laparoscopic. Originally he was cutting me straight down my belly so I got very lucky and my dr is absolutely amazing. I will try meds and hopefully I won’t end up needing the major incision. I was officially diagnosed in April and bad enough that surgery wasn’t optional. I am very anxious as it is so I must do my best to stay calm to avoid flare ups but that is way easier said than done:( i will look into the support groups assp.

Re: Ulcerative Colitis
I do the low fodmap diet to help me see what foods are triggers for me. Does not mean I always follow it but I at least know what will happen when I eat. Good luck and if you ever need to talk please feel free to reach out.
