Uh oh..another "what do I give" question
SO and I are flying down to Boca Raton tonight for his best friends son bar mitzvah. We're not sure what to give, if it's like a wedding per plate, or I heard there's a "number" significance. I'm fully aware of give what you can, but what would you for 2 people?

Multiples of 18, maybe 144 if it's your best friend? I would say somewhere between 90-180 depending on what you want to give

Per person or for both? SO was thinking 360....180 from each of us. But he didn't know if too much or too little

Only you can decide if it is too much or too little.
As long as it is the multiple of 18 its fine no matter what it is.

IMHO $360 is very generous and would be a lovely gift. If money is an issue (always give what you can afford and don't ever think about covering your plate) if you were to give$180/ $218 that would be lovely.

DH & I recently gave $216 ($218 is not a multiple of 18) for a bar mitzvah we went to - that was the total from both of us, not each. I asked around with the same question and was pretty much told it wasn't necessarily like the gift you would give for a wedding - usually less (no idea if that was correct, but a few people said the same thing).

Yes! That is correct. The money will most likely go to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah child's future or to even help pay for some of the expenses for the occasion. Give what you can. Whatever you give will be very generous and don't think too much about how much. The family invited you to share in the celebration for the child. Enjoy!
