Ugh...Please recommend you bland dog food.

Jensen has some horrible ongoing stomach issues. He has diarrhea so frequently and when I give him rice he gets constipated. The only food that seemed to really help him was the RX one you get from the vet but it's so Chat Icon . Does anyone have a suggestion for food for a sensitive stomach?

Health Extension. Our biggest guy has colitis. We had to mix the RX food with his regular food every day. We were feeding him Pedigree in the beginning. The RX food worked but i was sick of spending 40 bucks a month on the regular food and 5o bucks a month on the RX food. So we tried Health extension. It's worked wonders. We don't need the RX food anymore. It's $50.00 for a 40lb and well worth every penny IMO.

Have you tried canned pumpkin? Our dog has a bad digestive system and this works great for him.

We mix a heaping tablespoon into his bowl of food - he loves the taste and the fiber keeps him regularChat Icon

My friends dog has a very sensitive stomach. The poor thing is ultra picky too... won't even touch or spits out most foods. The one she swears by is Purina ONE Sensitive Systems. She says it's pretty inexpensive and works wonders.

Thanks everyone. Can you get the Health Extension at any regular pet store like PETCO?

Also, with the canned pumpkin, do you give it to him once a day or with every meal? We feed our guy 3X a day.

We have a small dog (19lbs) so he only eats 2 small meals a day.

We use 1 tablespoon for a cup of food

I know petco doesn't sell Health Extension. Pet supplies Plus carries it. its about $60 plus tax for a 40lb bag there, so we get our food from 1 of 2 stores in the Bohemia area. Total Pet Care on Broadway in Holbrook or Pet Depot i think it's called on the corner of Lincoln and Church in Bohemia. It's $50 a bag including tax

Re: Ugh...Please recommend you bland dog food.

does iams have a brand for sensitive stomach? i know the vet use to tell us to use that if we didnt want to buy the rx one they sell there (for the cat).
did they check the dog for a possible worm?

when my dog had that the woman in the pet store told me to try canned pumpkin (i think it helped plus she loved eating it - its the actual pumpkin not the pie mix)
what about potatoes? just have to cook themlong enough so the starch comes out

Re: Ugh...Please recommend you bland dog food.

Pumpkin is great for dogs. I would give a bit with every meal. I also used to give yogurt with probiotics.

Have you tried brown rice instead of white rice? It might work a little better.

Thanks everyone. I just bought canned pumpkin. I'm going to give him some with his dinner later.
