ugh, today stunk

I went to the hospital for a growth sono today b/c at my 39 week appt on tues my dr said i was measuring small so she wanted to check. the baby measured 6 lbs 10 oz and then the tech told me they wanted to do a non stress test.

i really wish i had asked more questions about this test and had refused it. my appt was first thing in the morning so i didn't have a lot to drink before going to the hospital. well apparently i was dehydrated and baby's heart rate was very high, in the 170s and 180s, but also dropping to 150s sometimes. they couldn't tell if it was a high heart rate with dips or a regular heart rate with escalation.

so they sent me up to triage and hooked me up to an iv for fluids, but in the meantime people were panicking, telling me i was going to need a section right away, and just generally freaking me out. it was awful, especially b/c my DH hadn't arrived yet. luckily my dr was very calm and talked down the other people in l&d and they gave me a chance to get some of the fluids in before doing the section.

as it turns out baby's hr came down to the 140s and for the 2 hours after that stayed there.

i hate that they freaked me out for no reason. i was literally in tears. and i hate that i had to have an iv and be in the hospital for hours when if i'd just had more to drink this morning everything would have been fine.

lessons learned- don't agree to any testing unless they give me a solid reason why i need it. drink drink drink before any appt.

glad to be home now and hoping to go into labor on my own in a few days and get the natural birth i'm hoping for!

so sorry you had to go through that...I would have freaked too. I am 39 wks on Saturday and we just need the rest of this time to be as calm as possible since our nerves are already heightened. Feel good!
