UGH- these posts on FB etc.
I always follow my gut and keep an eye on my dd, but hearing about how there are people at malls etc makes me sick to my stomach.
I don't know how many reported abductions there about this type of thing but I just saw something on FB and now it's all I can think about.
I go out with my dd and she loves to run on her own and of course I am there closeby but now I want to keep her in a bubble.

Re: UGH- these posts on FB about trafficking etc.
Just bear in mind that a lot of that stuff on FB is not true, urban legend, greatly exaggerated, etc. Of course you always need to be vigilant, I watch my DD like a hawk, but if there was really all this stuff going on at malls, etc, don't you think it would be on the news and not just some random share on FB?
I take anything on FB with a grain of salt.
Bottom line, be careful, but don't panic or freak out

These Facebook stories scare the F out of me too, but then I think about it and have you heard of ANY children recently who were kidnapped at Target, or the mall in our area? This type of thing would be ALL over the news and it just isn't. So that eases my mind a little. But I am not going to lie, I have a mini heart attack when I lose eyes on my 4yo for even a second. I have screamed her name when she was just behind me at Target bc I am a freak and think my kid is so friggen cute everyone wants to snatch her up, LOL.

Re: UGH- these posts on FB etc.
I just read one about IKEA in cali on FB. I have no idea if it's true or not, but I figure it's good warning so I remain vigilant. I have 4 kids, 8 YO to 1 YO, and this stuff scares me because I don't have enough hands by myself, so I've adapted my schedule to only go on errands when my older 2 are in school or my DH is home from work. Human trafficking is real, it's not mainstream news, but it does happen, and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Re: UGH- these posts on FB etc.
I get the same way when I read these posts. There was one last year about Target and someone said it was on LI (I forget which store), but then I saw the same exact story/post circulating and it said it was a Target in Florida. I started to think it just wasn't true.
I'll admit, I am paranoid when I go out with my two (soon to be 3) children alone. My 6 year old DD is getting daring and turning aisles without me and I freak out. I try to always remain vigilant and aware of who is around us. BUT like others said, I think these FB posts need to be taken with a grain of salt. Especially if they're not being reported on the news.

I feel like there have been so many today - the Ikea one, the one where the lady had to have emergency surgery and sent her kids outside on a bench to wait for a neighbor to pick them up... Insane.

She sent her kids outside to wait on a bench? What? What was that full story? Sounds off

Ack I know! There's been so many of them lately! And I can't help but read them. But some of them seem... sketchy... or at the least unconfirmed.
Like the one in Ikea recently. There's nothing that actually happened that shows they were going to snatch any kids or anything like that. But it was creepy and it makes sense to keep your guard up.

Link.
That's the story- not out on the street on a bench, in the ER waiting room.

Sorry - yes, outside of the waiting room on a bench. Insane. The Ikea one is all over the place though.

Yes I read it and although it was odd ,I am not sure what their intentions were. The whole story seems odd- how they sat there and stared each other down- I would have high tailed it to an employee and asked for help and I certainly wouldn't have gone to the bathroom with them lurking around. I'm not saying it wasn't freaky, but I am not sure they were actually human traffickers

Attempted abductions are nothing new, we just hear about them more because of social media. When I was younger my sister and I were almost kidnapped by a man in a truck. We ran home FAST. Back then there was no social media, so the only people that would know of these things were your neighbors and classmates when the school would send home a note.
Human trafficking is HUGE, and kids disappear every single day and are sold and sent overseas. It's a REAL thing, so while you can't live your life in fear, you need to use your common sense and keep your kids close.
and this is spot on. I have drilled this into my kids recently.
“Mom, I knew they were tricky people because they were asking us for help. Adults don’t ask kids for help"

Fake or not, it's a good reminder to be vigilant. Just because we don't hear about abductions and trafficking on the news that much, doesn't mean they're not happening. It sucks, but we live in a sad and scary world
