Ugh, Lice in class
We got a letter home today that a kid in my DC class has Lice. I did a check of DC and I don't "think" I see anything. I sat under the light on the bathroom sink counter with DC and used a fine toothed comb to go through DC hair. It seems to have come back with nothing on it.
Does anyone know, did I do it right? Are we in the clear now? Im so paranoid!!! Do I need to check the rest of us, if my DC came back clean?
Do I need to do anyting with DC school stuff like DC backpack or coat?

Re: Ugh, Lice in class
I am paranoid about lice...my kids use tea tree oil shampoo once a week, I spray their hair with white vinegar and water before the last rinse, and I spray them with an all natural lice repellant spray before school. I also wash their coats and backpacks frequently and sometimes just throw them in the dryer on high just in case.

We use the Fairy Tales products throughout the year.

Re: Ugh, Lice in class
Go too Harmon beauty supply (or bed bath & beyond - bec u can use 20% off coupons ) or most drug stores
And look for fairy tales products - I used the shampoo, conditioner and hairspray every day after the outbreak in my DD's class - works great! Just be warned she will smell like a citronella candle!!
The stuff on amazon

Re: Ugh, Lice in class
Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner by Suave are just as effective, and a quarter of the price. The Rosemary is the active ingredient in the Fairytales. Tea Tree Oil works as well, but that stuff makes us itchy for some reason. I do spray the Fairytales every morning on her head, especially around the back of the neck and near the ears. In the winter, spray the coat, and have your child put their coat in their backpack.
Since you have a son, easy peasy if you get lice, shave it all off! lol

oooooh, good to know, I didn't realize suave made them! Do you think I need to do all of it, or just the spray should be ok?

I think the spray is just fine for a boy, but Suave doesn't make a rosemary mint spray unfortunately!

Re: Ugh, Lice in class
You are fine. The school nurse n my school says that research maintains that most of the lice cases do not come from school (unless they share hats), but instead from playdates and sleepovers.
That being said. Lice don't like clean hair, so I spray DD's detangler in my sons' hair as well, just to keep it "dirty"
