ugh! DH vent!

So I make dinner every Friday night for shabbat. Tonight DH has scheduled a meeting in Tribeca. He was *supposed* to be there by now. Of coure he is still at his Syosset office. We live on the upper west side and DH parks his car on the street, which is a total b*tch on Friday nights.

Now tonight, aside from making dinner, I also have to play with DD, feed her, bathe her and put her to bed. Did I also mention that I work full time?

So I need to have an idea of how long everything will take. Now DH is TERRIBLE at guestimating how long things take. He left me in the car with DD for 90 minutes for a "10 minute" meeting. I have tried to just trust his word on when he'll be home, and most of the time he is wrong by an hour or so- and dinner gets cold.

So I tell DH, if he wants dinner, I need him to call me when he gets to his client's (so I can start preparing dinner), when he leaves the client's (so I can put the potatoes in the oven) and when he is lookng for parking (so I can cook the chicken). DH tells me "he'll try" whcih means, he won't.

So I tell him that if he can't commit to making these phone calls, I won't make him dinner. I am sick of guessing when he is coming home, having dinner get cold, and have him complain.

Well he tells me if he HAS to commit to making the phone calls, then he can't do it, so I should just skip making him dinner. Chat Icon So it looks like Jordana and I are having shabbat dinner all by ourselves, because DH can't make some freakin phone calls. Chat Icon Why do I even bother?

ETA: I realize that 3 phone calls may seem excessive, but he is SO BAD at guessing when he will be somewhere- he has a terrible judgment of time. In fact, my family always adds an hour to whatever time he says he'll be somewhere.

UPDATE: In the end- he saw my side and I made him dinner. In fact, I even made soup and baked cookies- both from scratch.

That's annoying - you just want to have a nice family meal for Shabbat.

three phone calls does NOT seem excessive to me if it's for a good reason - and it's not like it's every night. i am sorry he can't see your side of things, and i hope you and jordana have a good shabbat dinner! Chat Icon
