At 8 weeks, would it still be an internal sono?

Most offices do an internal at 8w...mine, however, did not. My tech said she always tries external first and if that isn't working, then she switches to internal. We saw and heard heartbeat with the external

I'm fat, I went in at 6w (though by date they thought 7 - but I knew 6), went straight to internal.... Again, I'm big - I'm a size 18W pre-preggo...

I'm overweight and ended up having an external...and they heard the heartbeats. I was surprised but there was no need for an internal!

Maybe they went straight to internal knowing I was earlier than 8 weeks... who knows.
I think every office is different. I think it depends on how many weeks you are, their equipment, etc.

To update, it was an internal which I kind of figured. Got to see the baby and hear the heartbeat! Such a relief.

I have sonos every 2 weeks and they always do an internal to check my cervix. They didnt do an external sono until 12.5 weeks. I am small so I dont think it has anything to do with size.

I had once read (I don't remember where) that it was actually harder to get through the "fat" with the sono externally, that's why I thought it might have had something to do with my size.

I had an internal at my 1st appointment and got to see the bean on the screen. After that it was just external HB checks.
