Tyler ad Catelynn talk about their wedding plans
Just months after their newborn daughter Carly was adopted by North Carolina couple Brandon and Teresa, Teen Mom's Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell got engaged on camera. And the two are already starting to plan their wedding – in the distant future.
"I want Brandon, Teresa and Carly to be there," Catelynn, 18, tells PEOPLE of their proposed guest list. "They'll obviously be there."
In fact, Tyler, 18, foresees his daughter being an integral part of the ceremony. "I would love for Carly to be our flower girl," he says. "That would be so cool – but we'll see."
As for the wedding location, that's another thing the couple has spent time thinking about.
"I would love to go to California [for the wedding]," says Catelynn.
Adds Tyler: "I would love to get married on a mountain or a cliff where you can see the water – something really cool."
Just don't expect to hear wedding bells soon. Though the teens agree they want to get married on their anniversary, July 15, they say a wedding won't happen for at least a few years.
"Oh, it's after college," says Catelynn, while her fiancé confirms, "post-college, definitely. Not for a while."
For some reason i don't think Brandon, Teresa and Carly will be there

I agree. I do not watch the show, but it seems like what they envision is pretty selfish and could very easily confuse that little girl

They do have an open adoption, the couple that is raising Carly agreed that they could keep in touch with letters/photos and see her occasionally.

I dont think they are selfish, I think they are young, lost teenagers, who had to give away their child bc they had to not bc they wanted too. I think they didnt quite get what an opened adoption meant or how it would affect them but they did the best they could. They just love their little girl, and right or wrong, they miss her and want to be part of her life.

A friend of mine dated a girl who had an open adoption when she was about 16 or so.
He met her when she was 22 or so -- and he ultimately ended the relationship because he couldn't take the complexity of the open adoption. He felt it affected the mom way too much and she wasn't getting the proper help for it.
Not to mention it was a bit confusing for the child. She would go and attend her daughter's soccer games and the child knew that was her birth mom but not her "mommy". There were times when the little girl questioned why she had two moms, one of which only came around sometimes. I can only imagine how this could grow even more as she gets older.
She would want to see the child as much as she could since a family friend of her parents adopted her. But it didn't always work out and it affected her immensely.
I think Tyler and Catelynn did the right thing -- but I think that constantly talking about it and having a romanticized idea of how the future will be, could definitely make it so hard for them to move forward.

I also noticed that Carly's adoptive parents always seem to send pictures of Carly WITH one of them. As if to make sure they know she has new parents.
