Two naps to one???

When did your DC transition from 2 naps to 1? How did you know they were ready? And How did you do it?

I am so confused...DS is 13 months and sometimes he will not take his second nap (usually around 2) and then around 4 he is exhausted and a mess until he goes to bed around 7. I am thinking he might need only one nap but later in the day, rather than the two. Any advice would be helpful. TIA!

Re: Two naps to one???

I'm going thru the same thing. My son is 12.5 months. My ped said that if he is taking a two hour morning nap he doesn't need the afternoon nap (which is why he fights going down), BUT he can't go from 11:30am to 7pm without a nap either. I have tried pushing the nap to a little later the past few days but that isnt working either. Then it just turns into one really short nap.

Re: Two naps to one???

DS does not nap for two hours in the morning, it usually is between 45 minutes and an hour and half (on a good day). But the afternoon ranges from no nap to an hour. So I am not sure what to do.

Re: Two naps to one???

We are going through a similar thing...DS generally n aps in the AM for 90 minutes and then around 4 for 1hr or so..

Since the holidays some days he will skip and just do one nap other days he needs the 2. What is also throwing us off is I have signed up for music and library classes wh ich are during what used to be his nap time....

Now I am just following his cues day by day - if I see him tired in the PM I put him down, even if its 5pm but I only let him sleep until 6 (h is bedtime is 9) I find he goes to bed easier at night if he isnt overtired.

ETA DS is 13 months old too!

Re: Two naps to one???

Good post - i want to know the answer too!!! My DS is almost 12 months and is fighting the 2 nap thing, but when I take him home from daycare at 5, he falls asleep in the car which indicates he needs a nap. When I get him out of the car he wakes up and won't go back down. NOt sure what to do.

Re: Two naps to one???

My oldest DD didn't transition to one nap until 17 months old.

My youngest DD transtioned to 1 nap around 10 months old.

Both girls made the transition on their own. I had no choice in the matterChat Icon
