twins with only 1 sac *UPDATED*

I am a regular LIF poster, but due to the sensitivity of my issue, I wanted to stay anonymous for now. I hope you all understand.

I had my first sono today and we saw 2 heartbeats in one sac. It is too early to tell if there is a membrane separating them and I go back next week and hopefully they will be able to give me more info.
First of all, I am extremely shocked by this news. It took us so long to get PG (we already have 1 DC, this is our 2nd PG) and never in my wildest dreams did i ever think I would have twins.
I know it is very early (only 6 wks, 2 days), and at this point, anything can happen, but I just need some advice or information from anyone that has experienced this. DH and I are in a state of shock today and I cannot stop crying. I am terrified of the idea of having twins and even more so for the risks involved with this type of PG (especially if no membrane separating them is found).

If you feel more comfortable you can FM me.

TIA

ETA: I guess I'm just shocked and scared. We saw an RE but never took any fertility meds, just hormones. I cannot believe this and dont know how this has happened...we have no twins on either side of the family. I know its a blessing, but I am terrified. Chat Icon

EATA (11/25/09):
My Dr is pretty sure she saw a membrane today!!!!!!!!! We see a high risk OB on Tuesday and he will confirm, but I already feel so much better!!!!!

Re: twins with only 1 sac?

I have identical twins that shared a sac. At 13 weeks (when i found out). It took them about 20 seconds before they found the membrane separating them.

yes, but i just keep thinking about the risks if the dr doesnt find a membrane separating them. she didnt see one yesterday, but said that it was too soon and that is why she will check again next week.
i guess she had to just prepare us for the possibility that it wont be there...
just need some prayers that there is a membrane separating them!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: twins with only 1 sac-when did you see a membrane?

Sorry you are upset.
