TV last night
Don't judge me on my choice of programs lol....
I decided to have a lazy evening and sit myself in front of the television for a bit last night. I watched 90210 (yes, can't stop being a fan since the original...) and Silver was going through IVF. She hyperstimmed and got a blood clot in her leg. Then I watched Mike & Molly. The entire episode was them trying to make a baby. She was POAS, they were trying all diff methods, they discussed MFI endlessly. Lastly I put on Sister Wives and Meri spent the episode trying to decide whether to go through IVF or if she's done having children.
I'm partly glad that the topic isn't taboo and people talk about it, make shows about it etc....but I just wanted to escape from IVF world last night and watch some tv!!! So much for that!

Re: TV last night
I think it's awesome they're showing it more What just bugs me though is when they're portraying it like they want it to seem realistic, when really it's a far cry from reality! I'm thinking of Greys Anatomy when they did their shots in the elevator .. umm .. . really??
Even reality shows like G&B ..Her IVF journey seemed realistic to me, but her surrogacy journey was sooo different from what I experienced. Must be nice to decide you wanna do surrogacy, find a surrogate almost instantly, and have her get pregnant on the first try! They never mentioned how much all this is costing them too!

Re: TV last night
Yes that was one thing that annoying about the 90210 IVF info. She decided to do IVF, had her consult, never mentioned $$ and started stimming like the next day. Then 1 or 2 days later she hyperstimmed, was in the hospital and was told it could be her only try at IVF. Not realistic at all....but I guess they can't make episodes long enough to give a true picture!

Re: TV last night
The worst is when these shows say "we're implanting 2 eggs!" (rather than what they're REALLY doing .. "transferring 2 embryos" Is it THAT hard to get that part right?!

That's funny and I'm laughing even harder bc my mother always says that to me and I have to correct her every time. haha

TV last night
I have nothing of real substance to add to this thread...lol. But since I stopped watching 90210 after the second season I am pretty far behind. Why is Silver trying to have a baby and with who? Did she get married? Isn't she still in school?

Re: TV last night
She was diagnosed with the BRCA gene (increased ovarian/breast cancer risk) and may have her ovaries removed so she wants to have a baby before that. She's using her friend's (donor) sperm. They tried IUIs and failed so now onto IVF. And I've now learned I need to find something better to do with my time....

Re: TV last night
I watch a lot of reruns of Friends, and whenever they cover the Chandler and Monica IF story I am always so bothered by it. They do a couple of test and never get a second opinion and their options are "donor sperm, or surrogate with Chandlers sperm"

Re: TV last night
Seriously...to change the topic slightly (sorry)...every TV show and every movie has IF in it. I was watching the New Girl last night (thought I was really safe with this one) and though everyone is single their friend is a gyno and told them they should get this blood test to see if your eggs are still good. Which we all know that there's no way to tell that from a blood test, but I assume they were testing the hormones (like the next day which we all know must be day 2 or 3 of your cycle) and AMH (is it that or something like that...I was never tested....4 close to 5 clinics). 30 Rock...Liz Lemon suddenly has to get pregnant cause its the last season of the show. There's no escaping!!!

It's true - it's everywhere right now! Or...it's always been everywhere and we are just noticing it now that we're living it.

Re: TV last night
Actually...probably we are just aware of it. I remember liking this movie "Forget Paris" with Billy Crystal and Debra Winger...came out about 1995. Well a couple of years ago ( and I'm still remembering it like yesterday) I caught it on one of the cable channels. And I was so excited to watch it (I've been TTC with an RE for 4 yrs now). Meanwhile I guess since it wasn't important to me I didn't remember that most of the movie is about them trying to have a baby (in fact there is a hysterical scene where Billy Crystal has to bring his sample to the clinic). I mean they break up over this. How could I have not remember this?
