Tummy Time

Do you do a lot of tummy time with your baby? Kevin is almost 7 weeks and the doctor told me to give him 15 minulte sessions 4x a day of tummy time. Well I tried it and he lasted maybe 15 SECONDS before screaming. I don't think its good for him to be so upset while doing this but I don't want him to have and development delays.

What does everyone else do?

Re: Tummy Time

I give Jared a little tummy time every day and he likes it but not for too long. I'd say 15-20 minutes a day or twice a day.

Re: Tummy Time

My Kevin hated it until he was like 5 months old. My dr recommended at least twice a day for as long as you can do it. Kevin never lasted more than 5 minutes without screaming at first - I think I eventually got it to 7-8 minutes. Luckily he never had any neck/shoulder issues. he was always good with his head control and he rolls over and stuff. Now he loves rolling and is always on his belly.

I remember some things I read to help with tummy time - didn't work for me though ...
-a prop up pillow
-the boppy pillow
-naked tummy time (or at least just a diaper)
-got down there and sing and entertain the baby

Re: Tummy Time

did you try introducing tummy time while on you or your hubbys tummy? my husband loves to lay on the couch with the baby on his chest, and baby seems to love it too...

DS doesn't like it too much either. He only lasts about 5 minutes, if that. But he goes a little longer each day so I keep trying to do it.

He likes it better when laying on mommy or daddy though.

Re: Tummy Time

Our twins didn't like tummy time at first. We probrably did 10 minutes a day - at the very most. Then one day, my daughter just rolled over. My son is rolling yet, but he likes his tummy time. I would recommend to do at least a little bit each day - then they'll slowly get used to it.

Its putting the baby on their tummy to help strengthen their neck muscles to get them ready for crawling. Chat Icon Atleast thats what my doctor said.

Re: Tummy Time

why tummy time...
since the whole "back to sleep" campaign due to SIDS scares, you need to make time for your baby to strengthen their neck/belly/arm muscles (b/c they arent sleeping on their bellies as much, if at all, to build them up)

Re: Tummy Time

marissa hated tummy time as well. I would either lay on the floor with her and put her on her play mat and since it was very colorful she didn't mind so much also I would lay on the couch or in my bed and have her lay on me she finally got use to it but in the begining she didn't like it very much and I would do it twice a day for like 5 10 minutes
