triumph 5 and mom's of toddlers?
Jack moved into his Triumph 5 by 3 months which was fun and it was comfy. Once we started to foward face it he started picking at the sides and exposing the styrofoam and picking it and putting it in his mouth (we trained him not to eat it, but he would still play with it and snap the material), then the crotch strap material shredded and he would pick at it and try to eat that.
I called evenflo today and they are sending me a replacement, since the more recent models have the stryofoam hidden better and they don't have a replacement crotch strap. They have awesome customer service.
My concern now is Jack is 27lbs and 36inches. It only goes till 40 and honestly since he has short legs but a SUPER long torso his head is very close to the top of it.
I'm thinking of returning the new seat but i'm not sure of what kind I should get to replace it? Any ideas.
We have an Eddie Bauer Booster kind of seat in my husband's truck since Jack is rarely in it and it takes up less room but I don't think I want to go that route since it doesn't seem as comfy.
Please help.
And has anyone else had this problem with their Triumph ? Jack's was purchased in early 05.

I have the same seat in my car and we haven't had these problems yet but I'm not thrilled with the seat. I got it because it was rated as good as the Britax Marathon but it was less expensive. We have the Marathon in DHs car which he rides in more often.
I HIGHLY recommend the Marathon. It goes up to 65lbs.

Did you know your basically supposed to have the straps in the top slots once its foward facing, it looks crazy uncomfortable for Jack. Also my straps twist all the time. Argh!
I'm thinking if I can find a marathon online for a good price it will be Jack's new seat.
But I just want to see what others think and also wanted to share that Evenflo was great to deal with on the phone.
Tomorrow I will take pictures of the foam and how Jack can access it on his seat which was purchased march 05 since my mom got it before my shower at 30 weeks.

Yeah...I just recently turned it around so I had to re-route the straps. I find it funny that they call it a 5 point harness. It is so not. That flimsy little plastic thing in the middle does nothing.
Coupons!! I saved a bunch on the it by using coupons - you know the 20% off ones from BBB? Also check out Target online - they had the best price on the Marathon by far.
I'm glad to hear that Evenflo was good to deal with though. And that's great that they replaced yours.

We have the Triumph and are not crazy about it. The straps twist all the time, and Jesse is always pulling the cover off the seat. So far he hasn't pulled it apart though.
As our main carseat we have the Recaro Young Sport (I think that's the model). It's got the five point harness and a lot of side protection. Recaro makes race car seats so I figure they know car safety. So far so good with this one - Jesse loves it.

OMG our boys are too much alike!!!
We replaced one of our Triumph 5's when he shredded the strap between his legs. And he picks at the stryofoam too.
John is kinda on the short side but we have been looking into this high back chair
seat

We used that same carseat with Caiden and I really liked it. He never picked at anything on the seat? I think he tried to once but that was it. I'll be using the same one with Connor too. There are a lot of women on here that have it and really liked it. I purchased mine in the Spring of '04. Every child is different so I think that makes a difference.

Yup, imagine the level of cuteness and terror they could create if the John Joseph's ever met! lol. Our seats were probably purchased at the same time hence having the same problems. My mom is a spaz and purchased mine when I was like 25 weeks since my shower was at 30 weeks.
I ended up speaking with Evenflo and they sent me a replacement seat (so I know there was a problem and not just our boys! lol)
The DLX seat they sent me has leather so they can't reach the strofoam, is higher, is reinforced in the middle and top now for foward facing and doesn't have a crotch strap along with numerous other changes. We have that Eddie Bauer one for Dh's truck. Dh calls it Jack's rocket ship chair and likes it because it's cooler looking for his truck (ours is black and red)
Comparing the former and new seat

Jack loving the replacement seat for now
