Tripadvisor is confusing me!!
How seriously do you take the reviews you read on Tripadvisor. My mom has booked me a hotel in Fort Lauderdale with about 115 reviews, 40 are 5*, 35 are 4* and the rest are all going down.
Some people say, oh its so clean, others say its not so clean...
I am super confused!
Do I take these with a grain of salt?

Don't take it too seriously... just read a few reviews and if most people love it then your fine. I actually read the reviews from people from NYC, NJ, CT area b/c I figure we would have similiar taste. LOL

I look to see what the majority opinion is.
I look to see who is posting.
I consider the most recent reviews as the most accurate.
I look at reviews for other nearby sites, and compare them.
I've changed a reservation more than once based on trip advisor.

People complain about the strangest things sometimes I feel like especially on tripadvisor.
I don't know if it helps you any but I stayed at the Riverside Hotel in December in the new part and it was great.

i look at the most recent posts -as the op said, i feel they are probably the most accurate
i check other travel sites
i also look at posts mainly from new yorkers...i think we all probably have similar expectations!
if i remember correctly, isn't there a chat section? i would also post questions regarding the hotel there & see what repleies you get

I look at recent posts and I also look to see if these people have ever posted reviews or in the forums before. I find the candid pics also very helpful.

The first review is not good at all, but most of the subsequent ones say things like "I can't understand the bad reviews" and "reading the reviews I was apprehensive, but the hotel was beautiful and we had a great time" they are making me super nervous!!!

Which hotel is it? Maybe someone on here knows it. Honestly I go with the majority of the reviews (unless all the recent ones are bad). Honestly I think of it this way - when someone has a good experience they tell 1 maybe 2 people, but when they have a bad experience they tend to tell everyone KWIM? I think that is the thing with tripadvisor - not as many people who had a good trip do reviews but those who had problems make sure to go on and slam the place.

Its called the Wyndham PalmAire, its near to the Hard Rock Casino in Fort Lauderdale...my parents have been to see it and they said its beautiful.

I don't know that one -but I have stayed at the Hard rock in hollywood (Ft Lauderdale one) and it was great!

I've found Tripadvisor to be a wonderful tool when planning a vacation. DH and I planned our honeymoon and a recent 2 week vaca. to Italy using the recs. from tripadvisor and Google Earth to check out locations.
Remember there will always be disgruntled customers wherever you look, if the majority says good things about the hotel, then chances are it's probably a good place to stay. Also, I agree with PP who said to look at the most recent reviews as they may give a more accurate reflection of what you are likely to experience.
