Tried on my Nursing Bras last night...
I am 37 weeks today. I was packing my hospital bag last night and tried on my old nursing bras. They were from 6.5 years ago when I had DD. At the time I went to Georgette's in Hicksville and got fitted and they were a perfect fit and very good quiality. I spent over $100 on bras and then ended up barely using them because DD never took to breastfeeding. She was in the NICU for the first 4 days and so they supplemented with formula before I had even seen her and who knows if that is why but we never had much luck with it.
I am really hoping to nurse this baby, but didn't buy more nursing bras. My old bras are practically new.
Now, I've lost a lot of weight and started out this pregnancy 65lbs less then when I delivered DD...of course I've gained 28 lbs this time and so the weight gap isn't as big as it was...so I was expecting the nursing bras to fit.
Tried them on last night and they are huge on me.
Okay, not HUGE HUGE...I'd say I need a band size smaller and a cup size smaller...
But they are big enough that they aren't very supportive.
So I am not sure what I should do.
Do I go and get refitted and buy more bras, drop another big amount of $$ on these things, not knowing if we will run into the same nursing problems that we ran into with DD?
Or do I just use the ones I have, say screw support for a few weeks to see if nursing works out for us? And maybe when my milk comes in they will fit better?
What would you do?
Also...I am plus sized. I probably need nursing bras in about a 42D right now.. the ones I have are 44DD...so I can't just go to Target and buy them, they don't have them in my size!

Re: Tried on my Nursing Bras last night...
I would just get nursing tanks for now until you figure out if breastfeeding works for you or not. Mine are from Walmart and have that shelf bra in them. I am a DD and the large tanks fit me fine. It gives you a uniboob when you wear them without a bra but your first week or two (or several weeks for me) after having DS I was tired, barely got dressed, nursing 24/7, and just didn't care about getting all dressed up and having perfectly lifted boobies lol. The tanks provided enough support that I didn't look like I was walking around braless and you can't see your nipples through them when you have the nursing pads in them which I needed a lot because I would leak a lot in the beginning.

This! Wait a couple of weeks for you to establish a supply and get into a routine. Then go get new bras.

Honestly, I would wait. When I was preggo with my DD, I went out and bought a whole bunch of nursing bras and tops, and then nursing didn't work out for us, so it was a huge waste!

You dont NEED nursing bras. I had them but never used them for nursing (meaning pulled the clip down and nursed that way)
You can use regular bras, nursing tanks etc. Nursing bras are really only convenient when you are out and if you are comfortable nursing in public - which I never did.
My only advice is to get something without underwire, I even took the underwire out of my old bras and used those - the underwire gave me clogged ducts but other women have no issues with that!

Re: Tried on my Nursing Bras last night...
Also, if you do end up nursing, you won't be your nursing boob size until around 6-8 weeks. For those first weeks, your body is producing a lot of milk, I leaked a ton and had very full, hard boobs. After about 6-8 weeks, your body learns your childs eating pattern and learns how much to produce,so you won't be over producing anymore. (this is the case for most people, keep in mind that some ladies never get a good supply and some always have an oversupply) I have been nursing since Aug 2010 and my boobs have been the same size since around October of 2010.
Point is...they don't fit now or nursing may not work out for you so no need to waste the money now. If nursing does work out for you, then your size with supply could fit into the bras or they could be too small or still too big. No way of knowing right now so nursing tanks are the cheapest option. I know people rave about the Target ones also.

I agree get nursing tanks until you see how big your biobs will be. Old navy has plus size nursing tanks online and they are cheap! I got 3 one in black/gray/white!
