Trees with Ivy...

Anyone have trees with ivy growing on the trunk? I personally like the look, my parents even have it on one wall in their backyard.

We're having a tree service big job being done next week, my hubby wants to take down this tree, saying there are way too many bugs between the ivy, and the location of the tree is a pain Chat Icon

I dont really agree. but are there any cons to keeping this tree.
uhm, its the outdoors, there are bugs outdoors.. my drama boy....Chat Icon

I'd remove the ivy. It does attract a lot of bugs, you'd be amazed what comes out of there when it's pulled down. Plus it can strangle the tree.

So would you pull the ivy and not necessary take the tree down?

If the tree looks healthy, I'd just remove the ivy. I hate to remove trees, especially big ones. Our backyard has no shade, my ILs had all the trees removed when they lived here.

My parents had ivy all over our house and trees, plus it took over half the yard when we lived in California. My dad removed it himself, after seeing how many bugs live in there I said I'd never have ivy. I can't even stand it in the house in a pot, it really gives me the heebie jeebies.

Re: Trees with Ivy...

We have a huge tree in the back yard that has IVY all over it and the IVY goes into the flower bed below it and it actually goes two house over...

WE are going to remove the ivy from the flower bed - Having Landscaper do it and then Have the tree removed.

We need to cut the tree down because we want to put up a fence and the tree is actually pushing the fence that is there now out of the way.
