Tree Removal and Mosquitos
We live on the south shore, very close to the water. We currently have a backyard full of trees AND mosquitos! The trees are overgrown and many in poor condition. We've been getting estimates to clear the land and put up a nice, clean PVC fence. Part of me is so sad to see the trees go, but we can't even take my daughter in the yard the way it is now with all the bugs. Do you think that removing the trees will reduce the mosquitos invading our property???

It's doubtful. Mosquitoes like standing, stagnant water. Unless the roots are creating pools of water, it's unlikely that removing the trees will help much. It sounds like because you're near the water, they are using the shoreline, and any pools of water created by the shoreline, as their breeding grounds.

I agree. We have a lot of mosquitos too but we have a high water table so it only needs to rain one day and the back of our yard is sopping wet and then takes a few days to dry.
We did buy a bug zapper which really works well and we do spray the yard every 4-6 weeks ( last year we went longer in between but with all this rain it is closer together). We use Cutter but DH's friend uses another brand but we haven't been able to find it. Now we can sit outside durning the day and at night.

Re: Tree Removal and Mosquitos
I wonder if it is the trees. I'm on the south shore too, near water, and although we only have one big tree in our backyard, I've noticed that mosquitos like to hang around that tree. I see them hovering there in a pack. And I'm pretty sure we don't have any standing water on the property and definitely not around this tree. Maybe you could stop by a nursery (not home depot) and ask them about it and for suggestions, maybe they have something.
