Tree / bug spray companies
Ever since I moved into my house last month, I've been getting solicitations from companies looking to put pesticides on my lawn/trees. We must be on "new homeowner" mailing lists and 3 companies called / sent mailings telling us that they worked for the previous homeowners. Three different companies! SO SHADY!
Anyway, I've never heard of this. You can't stop mosquitos from coming in the summer, right? And we have a bazillion roses so I figured honeybees are coming no matter what. We have an 85x100 lot and are in a residential area.

Re: Tree / bug spray companies
I think you're absolutely right that they're just looking for $. They can easily get a list of new house sales from MLSLI.com and then lie to you about the landscaping. It happened to us also, and as a 'test' I described a tree problem to one of them. He immediately quoted me for a removal. Then I called an arborist for a free evaluation and guess what? My gorgeous 15 year old Japanese Maple that shades my entire patio is just fine. The trunk looks bad but we used organic methods to keep it healthier and I will get another 5 to 10 years out of it.
All the landscapers I spoke to used the scare tactics and tried to convince me that the reason I didn't have bugs was because they were sprayed with pesticide. Two years later, the only bugs I have are on one tree and they can live symbiotically without killing the tree as long as I water it and trim it each year.
The fact is, no one "needs" harsh chemicals that poison our groundwater, environment and families but enough people buy the hype and keep them in business.

By the way - mosquitos nest in still water. If you have standing water on your property or around, you will have them. No amount of spraying your trees will deter them.

OMG we got the same thing! We got some weird letter in the mail making it seem as if the previous homeowners had used them. We called the number and it was bogus.
