treating breakouts
I used to have bad acne but went on accutane a few years ago and haven't had problems with it since, well until getting pregnant! Now my chin and forehead are breaking out really bad :( Even my back has some acne on it! What do you do to treat breakouts? Is it safe to use acne creams or astringents? What kind of facewash is OK to use? TIA!

Re: treating breakouts
My doctor said you're not supposed to use salicylic acid but benzoyl peroxide is OK. I was breaking out horribly when I got PG but I went for a facial and have been faithfully using cetaphil, Estee Lauder's alcohol-free toner and a couple of moisturizers the facialist at Red Door recommended and my skin has been great ever since. I spot treat with clearisil.

Re: treating breakouts
oh no!! I have been slathering on the salicylic acid zit cream for weeks now! How bad is it for the baby? My doctor didn't say a word about what I should and shouldn't be doing.

Re: treating breakouts
my dr said to also not use salicylic acid, and my skin is the worst it's ever been in my entire life!!!! I hate it.
ETA: All I use now if facial wash and astringent, no treatment creams.

Re: treating breakouts
My skin's been awful too. I'm prone to breakouts but it hasn't been this bad in like 10 years. And I feel your pain with the back breakouts too.
I've gotten it under control by using Acne Free...it's just like Proactiv only less expensive and you can get it at Costco or Walgreen's. The kit comes with face wash, toner, repairing lotion, and on-the-spot zit treatment.
Good luck!

my doctor was okay with Proactiv (which has salicylic acid) and the Clinique 3-step program.

Re: treating breakouts
I switched (medicated) acne treatments earlier this year - when I told my Dr that DH & I would be TTC later this year. He put me on Azelex and it works incredibly well. I wash my face 1x a day with Dove soap and use the Azelex 2x a day. My skin cleared up in 3 months. I this stuff.

Re: treating breakouts
I'm really glad I saw this post! I have experienced terrible breakouts with this pregnancy and went into a panic because I had no clue how to treat it...never had acne in my life, now I have been freaking over the way my face looks. My mother warned me that you cannot use Proactiv when you are pregnant, so I went and ordered this super special scrub and have been using it for about a month now....just googled it to check the ingredients after reading this post and OH YEAH salicylic acid. After this morning, I am not using it again. Thanks ladies! (sorry or )

THe 3 step proactiv for your face has benz. peroxide, the backwash has salytic acid
I used proactiv, the 3 step face one, with both pgs on my face, back and shoulders. Kept them away and looking clear

thank you! I thought I typed that backwards! The toner in Clinique also has salicylic acid.
I also found that Proactiv totally stopped working for me when I was pregnant, so I switched to Clinique.
