Traveling with formula?

Here's my dopey question of the day...so when I travel with her, I know my unopened formula nursette bottles (the 2 oz ones) are fine as long as they are room temp. Do you guys bring your bottles and the formula or do you prep bottles ahead of time? I ask because I also bought a little cool pack that came with a reusable ice pack, and it seems like I can also prep the bottles ahead of time and just put them in there and voila--done. Heating them will be another issue, but thank goodness she seems ok with fairly cool bottles so far. I was using the warmer constantly and then decided to try running under hot tap and she gulped it down just the same! and ps: we're up to just over 3 ounces now! about every 3 hours. Night time, she goes about 4 1/2. sound about right?

Re: Traveling with formula?

It's a personal choice- I used to bring the powder and prep it whereever I was but that got to be annoying.
So we started making a bunch of bottles ahead of time and keeping them in the fridge.
Then when we went out, I'd grab a few and put them with an ice pack in my diaper bag- mine has an insulated section for bottles.

You can always warm them in some hot tap water later.

Re: Traveling with formula?

For me, traveling with pre-filled bottles is a headache. I was so lucky I could find easy to open single serving (8oz) cans of our formula, so I just use those. I even use those when I'm lazy to make batches at home.

Some babies don't care that bottles are cold, but I noticed cold bottles made my DS more crabby, I'm guessing they bothered his tummy.

On the go, I will ask for a half filled cup of hot water at a coffee shop or what have you. If I had to bring prefilled bottles and kept them in cooler.

Your feeding timing sounds right to me. Around 2.5, I started spacing feedings during the day around 3.5 hours... and at night only when he woke. Around 3m he was having a bottle every 4 hours during the day, and no bottles at night.

I second the powder stick packs.. LOVED THEM!!

I would prefill the bottles with water and that was it.

Very early on we stopped warming her bottles and she always took them room temp. So that made life a LOT easier.

I always travelled with two prefilled, four packets of formula and one water bottle.

We use powder

Prefill the bottles with the water, pre-measure the powder and keep in a container and mix when we needed it.

I always used the powder. I'd bring a water bottle with me and the powder and just make them when she needed one. I never warmed bottles-I always put room temperature water in the bottles. HTH

I use powder when traveling. So much easier than worrying about keeping it cool.

Re: Traveling with formula?

I just put water in the bottle, and measure out the powder separately. Then when it's time to eat I mix it and give it to her at room temp.

You can buy formula containers to hold the measured amount.

rtf

with the RTF i find it a little more difficult.
but i would try to bring the original 32 oz bottle and just not open it until i needed it.
then i would have to use a cooler or as soon as i got to my destination put it in a fridge.

sometimes when i travel though i will just but the powder because its so much easier

thanks! however, i'm a bit traumatized by the powder. we tried it yesterday (same formula, premium newborn enfamil) and she threw it up. I felt so bad. I fed her as normal; didn't put her down right away or anything. Doc said even though it's the same, some babies tolerate it differently. went back to RTF at next feeding and the rest of the night, no issues. I envisioned her choking. milk out of her nose and mouth; it was so awful for me! and for her i bet.

I go back and forth; bottle warmer not too hot or running bottle under hot tap. she is fine with either!

I concur, I bought two of these containers which contain 3 feedings each. One for travel in the diaper bag and the other for nightime feedings. They also become a cereal/snack container, when you take the divider out... They are like $4 at BRU or BBB.
They are very convienent I suggest you get them.

I also keep his bottles room temperature.
