Traveling question - Need advice

My husband is from Honduras. His whole family is planning a vacation there in early July and he really wants to go. Here's the situation I will be 6 months pregnant by than and I'm not sure how comfortable I am traveling there at this point in my pregnancy and out of the country. I'm not even sure how I'm going to feel at this point in my pregnancy. Of course I have to talk to my doctor about this. My question is what would you girls do? My husband said it's entirely up to me and if I don't feel comfortable we don't have to go but I really want to see where he's from and I'm not sure when we'd have this opportunity to go with his family again.
Sorry so long.

TIA

Re: Traveling question - Need advice

I'm perfectly comfortable with traveling at 6 months pregnant, but the location may be of concern.

I'm not that familiar with Honduras - how is the heathcare system there? How close would you be to a hospital in case of an emergency?

I would def. not go. my dr. specifically told me no travelling out of the country. If it were me, we could see his family another time.

Thanks girls I really appreciate your responses. I'm not really sure how the health care is as this was just thrown at me earlier today so I'd definitely have to extensive research. I think I might just call my doctor tomorrow and talk to him.

I'm traveling at 6 months, but it's to the EU.... no chance of catching a tropical disease, and there is decent health care....

Like others, I wouldn't be concerned to travel, but you must research the health care system and also any required immunizations or health alerts for US travelers.....

Next DH and I are going to Aruba - I'll be 28 weeks and couldn't be anymore excited.

My midwife gave me the ok, and as far as I'm concerned - I haven't had any scares in my pregnancy anyway.

I say discuss it with your doctor and see how they feel about the situation.

Re: Traveling question - Need advice

To be honest, I wouldn't go. I spent a month in Honduras a few years back, working in a village. I had to get shots and take Malaria pills before I went. It is not a very clean country and having been there myself, I would not go back as a 6 month pregnant woman. The people are lovely though! So I would definitely get there someday. The healthcare system is not even near to what we are used to here. And of course, there are also scorpions to think about at night. I slept under mosquito netting every night. Talk to your doctor but go with your gut! Chat Icon

Re: Traveling question - Need advice

I would not go. Out of the country is very risky, even the long plane ride isnt that great. Sorry, my opinion is to go next time - i'd skip this timeChat Icon
