travel question

i know that some people "check" with their doctors to see if they can travel while PG. i am not a high risk PG, and although i might mention it to my dr, i don't plan on asking for her permission to go (i will be flying to CA at 17 weeks).

if you are not high risk, is there another reason to ask your dr if you can/should go?

Re: travel question

You should be fine to travel at 17wks. The second trimester is the best time to travel (unless you have complications).

Re: travel question

You'll be fine. Just keep yourself hydrated. Get up to walk around during the flight (you won't need to remind yourself because you'll need to pee often as it is lol) and make sure you have some snacks.

I flew around that same time to CA with my first pregnancy.

Re: travel question

I think its generally considered fine to travel during your first and second trimesters. It can't hurt just to mention it to your dr.

When I flew to Cali at 20 weeks, my dr. just told me to make sure I walked around once/hr. as to avoid blood clots.

Re: travel question

I went to Dominican Rep when I was 27 weeks...the only reason I needed an ok was because I had placenta previa..once that was clear...my doctor told me to enjoy!!!!!!!!

So ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: travel question

I just posted a similar question on the parents board. I went to the doctor and asked her today if it would be alright to travel at 28 weeks pregnant. She said it's 50/50. I was hoping she was going to say, it will be fine. She told me to make sure I get insurance for my trip. I was so surprised!! If you see my post a few moms have travelled that late and said it was fine!

Re: travel question

I fly every week for work and at 33 weeks I am still at it! Doctor said the only reason she suggests I stop at around 35 weeks is in case I go into pre-term labor. Other than that - HAVE FUN! But remember to wear comfy shoes, drink LOTS of water and get up to walk around.

Re: travel question

I am a high risk, and all my doctors said its totally fine to travel. I will be travelling at 14 weeks and 24. so if you are not a high risk, you are fine.

Re: travel question

I just went on vacation at 25 weeks and returned at 26 weeks. We flew to Miami and took a cruise to Bahamas. I needed a doctors note in order to board the cruise ship stating I was under 27 weeks pregnant and was in good condition to travel. It is the policy of cruise ships not to have anyone on the ship over 27 weeks pregnant. For flying, my doctor said I was fine to travel anytime during the second trimester.

Re: travel question

I would be surprised if your doctor had a problem with it. Mine was willing to allow me to fly to CA at 33 weeks but I think I'm not doing it. The only thing she told me is that she didn't want me gone for more than 5 days and I had to promise her that I would get up and walk around at least once an hour and wear loose fitting clothes.

I think they suggest travel insurance more in case you don't feel up to the flight rather than not being allowed to go.
