transitioning from bassinet to crib

if you had your DC in a bassinet in your room.... when did you make the transition to the crib and how did it go?

My DD is 12 weeks and i tried putting her in her crib last night for the first time. SHE WASN'T HAPPY AT ALL. She cried and cried. I tried NOT to pick her up and just soothe her by rubbing her tummy or holding her hand but she just sobbed and sobbed. This went on for a couple of hours and finally...i just gave in and brought her back in my room and put her into her bassinet. She went right to sleep poor thing.

I had a noise machine in there...a fischer price aquarium thing that lights up and makes noise. Nothing worked. I think she likes the cosiness and close quarters of the bassinet.

I know your not suppose to let them CIO until 6 months, so for those of you who made the transition prior to 6 months how did you handle the crying?

Re: transitioning from bassinet to crib

I thought I would do it for naps first but he hated his crib. I thought I was going to have a big problem, but I did transfer him at exactly 12 weeks at nighttime and he was fine. Then the next day I did all his naps in the crib and he was fine Chat Icon Idk what happened but it worked. 12 weeks is still young, are you able to put the bassinet in her room for a few days first to get used it?

Did you try to swaddle her?

When we moved DS from his swing into his crib at 12 weeks, first night we just winged it and it was a disaster and then we tried the miracle blanket and he has been STTN ever since.

we put her down for naps in her crib a lot; she is just fine in there so hopefully when we make the switch, she's already used to it.

We moved DS at 8 weeks because he was just too big for the bassinet. I thought we would have an awful night because he hated napping in his crib. I swaddled him for the first time that same night. He slept 9 hours straight!! Get the swaddle.. it was my saviour.. up until now that hes flipping lol.

At 12 weeks we just moved her from the bassinet into her crib and honestly, I don't even think she noticed. There was no transition at all, she took right to the crib. We just set her up in the crib the same way she would sleep in the bassinet and she was happy. Chat Icon
