Transition to table food

DS is 7.5 months. Over the last couple of week I have tried giving him mashed potatoes, meatballs, pasta, real bananas. He makes faces and spits it out... It seems to be that it is more of a texture thing than a flavor thing (he loves bananas in the jar).

Is this common when transitioning to table food?

yes Chat Icon he is still so young, probably not ready! jack was the same way, he had textural issues and wasn't ready for real table foods until 14ish months!

I haven't even tried with Grace yet.

Transition to table food

Normal. I finally had to go cold turkey on the purees cause he would take them over table food.

Transition to table food

Dd just started liking table foods at almost 9 months. Before that she would gag like crazy!

Hailey is doing the same thing... We gave her some squash the other night and she spit it out and gagged for like 10 minutes after...

Then i squished a pea in her mouth last night and she spit it right back out.

Shes also done the same with bananas..

She will eat it all when its baby food.

DS is eats 95% table food now, he is 10 months old. He gagged in the very beginning but I was consistent with it. He will now occasionally refuse purees because he loves to feed himself

He's either not ready or doesn't like mixing textures. I found that DS wouldn't take a new texture if I was also offering purees at the same meal. But if I offered it alone, he'd eat it.

Pastina was a good example. He eats it alone, but not when I'm also giving him a jar.

ETA: 7.5 months is still really early for table foods. Many babies only start purees at 6 months! I'd give it a few more weeks and then try again.

I agree. I know my dd seems to do everything on the late side when it comes to eating... but 7.5 months seems really young to me, so I definitely wouldn't worry.
I started cereal/purees at 4 months and in retrospect, she really wasn't ready until 6 months and if I have another dc, I would probably wait. I can't even imagine dd taking table food at 7.5 months... she's 11.5 months now and we have just been trying the transition over the last month or so, but she's super picky and still prefers purees.
