Transition from Crawling to Walking?
Once your DC took their first steps how long did it take before they walked everywhere instead of crawled.
DS took his first steps last week and still prefers to crawl. It doesn't even seem like he remembers that he can walk unless we are actively engaging him to walk across the room to us (DH is on one side and me on the other).
Is it normal that they take some time to transition? Or is it just that he hasn't realized that he can probably get to where he is going a lot quicker if he just walked? Or is it just a confidence thing?

OK, had to check the baby book on this one.
For Lucas, it was almost 2 months between when he started taking his first official steps and when he was mostly walking. He took some steps starting in June at 9 months and then he was fully walking at 11 months.
Don't worry... Matthew will remember and there will be NO stopping him!

awww, the baby book. I probably should document the momentous first steps too, huh?
I think I need to have him hang with his buddies and maybe it'll click with him to walk -- not crawl.
It's so much fun seeing him do it though.

It took a good couple of weeks. I remember that she used to take a step or two..and then get down and crawl across the room at lightening speed. Eventually...the crawling was less and less and she would actually walk.

Kaitee took her first steps at 8 1/2 months old and by 9 1/2 months old she had dropped crawling.
Brooke took her first steps at 9 months old and didn't drop crawling until she was 11 months old.

DD took her very first steps on October 8. Today she spends 10% of her time walking, 15% of her time cruising and 75% of her time crawling.

Lucas will be more than happy to show Matthew what he knows about walking any time!!!

If only the two of them could be well long enough to plan something.
How is he feeling? (I'm hijacking my own thread)

Re: Transition from Crawling to Walking?
thanks everyone. I'm kind of impatient. It took us a long time (16 months) to get first steps. I guess I was hoping he'd nix the crawling fast.

Lucas is much better. I actually think he is starting to cough less and his nose stopped being so runny later this afternoon.
How are you and Matthew feeling? Have you stopped coughing?

i **think** (fingers crossed) that Matthew is on the up and up. He has his flu shot booster on Monday morning so we'll play that by ear.
Sounds like Lucas is on the mend too which I'm glad to hear.
As for me, I feel better than I did this afternoon but still coughing.
And DH is coughing now too -- and you know how men are --- BIG BABIES! He's already making claims of having an upper respitory infection just based on coughing for 5 minutes.

Re: Transition from Crawling to Walking?
DS just started walking a week ago. He took his first steps about 6 weeks before that.
NOw he only crawls when he has no other choice or after a "big" fall!
