Tragar oil? Is there a catch? How do they compare?

I've been calling around for oil prices.

My current company is Slomins they offered 3 options:
Service contract is $166.45
6 mo. contract $2.74/gal
3 mo. contract $2.84/gal
or .40$ off each gal. for the year (whatever the going rate is).
They are not offering 1 yr. fixed rates right now.

Petro quoted service contract at $129.95.
Variable of $2.74
Fixed 1 yr at $3.09
Ceiling at $3.19

Now this is where I'm Chat Icon Tragar's contract is $59.95 for the year.
Their rate for the year is $2.09-$2.89 cap for the year.
How are their prices so much lower?

I contacted Romanelli and Meenan and am waiting to hear back from them.

Re: Tragar oil? Is there a catch? How do they compare?

I use tragar b/c they do seem to be less expensive. HOWEVER, last year they billed me and never delivered oil Good thing I check. I called them and they came right over to deliver oil and apologized for the mistake. Whatever I gave them the benefit of the doubt but 2weeks ago I walked into my house and it was so cold. I look at the tank and it was empty. I don't know why b/c I'm suppose to be on automatic delivery. Called them and they came over within 30mins to fill it.

This has left a bad feeling with me and I will be looking for another company for next year.

I have a similar problem with them. I'm on automatic delivery but I'm ALWAYS running out of oil. It's ridiculous. Then, I call them and they fill me up but I have an old burner so it doesn't start so then I need a service call. I have a service contract with them but they always try to tell me we need a new burner.

They can all be negotiated down. I talked to Petro 4 times and each time got a better and better rate/service contract.

And days after we signed our contracts, we got a mailer from them advertising an even *better* rate for new customers and called them to complain that they hadn't given us that rate. They called us back today and apologized and honored that lower rate.

So as of TODAY, we got Petro for:
$1.99/gallon for the first fill up
$100 cash back for that first fill up
$2.84 ceiling for the year
$95/year service contract
Free thermostat with installation

Like I said, that was TODAY. Don't settle for anything that costs more than that with them. Put your bargaining hat on! Good luck!
