Traditional vs. Modern photography for babies

Hi everyone
Just like our parents had done for us, we wanted to have pics taken at 3months, 6 months and 1 year for our girls.

Do people go to a place where photos are taken (like Sears/picture people etc) or do people hire photographers who come to the home?

I am not crazy about having to go to a big mall with the little ones. Does anyone have an alternate place or a photographer they'd recommend that isn't a million dollars for twins?

Re: Traditional vs. Modern photography for babies

I've done both. For DS1 we used a prof photograph at 6 months and for his first birthday. Loved the pics and don't regret them at all. I made a nice photo book of both with all the pics that were taken. Since we did pics around the house when he was 6 months for his first I had her meet us at a park so there's different backgrounds.
After that for his second bday I took him to Kiddie Kandids at BRU. Honestly, thought the pics came out great and with a coupon it wasn't much at all. Didn't need a thousand pics of him too. A few cute poses... One with a big 2 block, a bench, ladder, etc.
For DS2 we used a prof photograph in Hoboken for his 1 yr shots andy thought that was great. Beautiful background again and did the cake smash too, family shots, judt of the boys, etc. Now I think for the next few years we'll use Kiddie Kandids again then go back to a prof.
It's really up to you. I do wish I did a prof photographer when they were born, but we took tons of pics. It's up to you. I have all the pics hanging up...

I did both.

DD1- we had Forever Fireflies come to the house

DD2 we couldn't afford to have someone come to the house (they were all well above what I paid for DD1) so I went to JC Penney. I regret it so very much.

I've recently used 2 up and coming photographers that I would definitely recommend:

Kristin @ Sweet Blossom Studios and
Danielle @ Lilac Blossom Photography

You can find them both on Facebook.

Good Luck!

It cant hurt to email some photographers!

I do a Belly to Baby Plan that includes Maternity, Newborn, 6 months and 1 year. And you have the option of swapping the maternity out for a mini session @ 9 months. I believe some other local photogs have similar plans or discounts when you book more than one session. Chat Icon

I've done both. I like both for different reasons. I like the store/mall type of photos because they are quick its only takes a few minutes to get some shots, editing is done right there and you can take your cd with you. Its also cheaper which is great for things like valentines day pictures or 6 months photos.

I like professional photographers because the picture quality is much better, its much more personal, you aren't rushed to get a shot, you get more props and the editing is much better. I've used Anne Hack who is wonderful but its currently on maternity leave for the next few months but she is reasonable and very sweet.

Can I ask which photographer you use that does this. That sounds like something I'd be so interested in.

We had ours done with Holly from Holly hunt photography. She is new to the business so her rates are affordable. But she is a doll and x she does a fantastic job!

I have done both and Modern fits our family better. I feel I get more natural images of my children that way.
