Sorry if this has been done before... I tried to search, but I must be doing something wrong because it didn't work.

Looking for the pros and cons of the Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot from those that have them. What do you love? What do you not love?

Thanks in advance!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Highlander. We got the 2016 Limited AWD with the Captain's Chairs in the middle row. It's a beautiful truck, has an amazing ride, and feels like Lexus quality. The trunk (when the 3rd row is down) has so much space, it's great!! I love everything about it and have ZERO complaints.

That being said, I only have 2 kids so we don't "need" the 3rd row. If you REALLY need to have a kid(s) back there all the time you might want to look at the Pilot, the Highlander has a smaller 3rd row then some other trucks but it's far from useless. My almost 8 yr old DD fits back there fine even in her highback booster. She never complains.

I *personally* didn't like the styling of the new Pilot, I thought it was boring looking. I love how beefy and truck like the Highlander looks in comparison. Both are great trucks, you can't go wrong with either choice! Chat Icon

Re: Toyota Highlander vs. Honda Pilot

We were choosing between these 2 cars in December! In the end the decision was made for us because #1 on my list was captain's seats in the 2nd row and the only Pilot model that had those was the highest model which was too much money. I love the new Pilot, it's amazing and we may look again when my lease is up. But we went with the Highlander and I AM OBSESSED WITH MY CAR. It's a perfect size for me, with the 3rd row option but we always leave it down (like 98% of the time) which gives me tons of trunk space. I find it drives very smoothly, I love the app suite/tech system, it's comfortable and roomy without feeling back heavy.

I don't think you can go wrong with either car, but I'm absolutely thrilled with my Highlander!

LOVE the Highlander. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. we have 3 kids, captain chairs and oldest dd sits in booster in the 3rd row. the trunk is small with 1/2 the 3 rd row up but I make it work. I am not buyig anything huge on my own anyway, so I don't need a ton of space. But this is also limited b/c I have double stroller in there so it's not really tht small even with dd back there. The Pilot was so much freaking $$$$. The captains chairs are int he highest one at like some ridiculous $$$$.

Thank you so much for all the feedback so far!

I only have two kids, so the third row would not be used every day... but I would like to have a third row as an option in case I have to haul any of her friends around.

I do prefer the captains chairs, so the Highlander sounds like it may be the way to go. Excited to test drive them both!

So, this begs the question... where did you get yours and were you happy with the dealer?

Smithtown Toyota. The dealership itself and the finance manager were all a pleasure to deal with however, we didn't care for our sales guy. He had the personality of a wall so dealing with him was a little painful. But overall, it was a good experience despite him.

I just went through looking and researching between these two cars last month and ended up with the Highlander XLE because I didn't want captains chairs. I would have gotten the limited package, but unfortunately that package is only offered with captains chairs.

In the end I thought that the Highlander drove better and I liked the interior styling better than the Pilot, but the Pilot I felt had way more features and was a better value for the money.

I like my car, but I don't love it.

I LOVE my Highlander, too! We opted for the 2nd row (not captain's chairs) because I figured once the kids are out of car seats, I'd rather have the extra seat in the middle.

We bought in Hempstead.

Re: Toyota Highlander vs. Honda Pilot

Just bought a new pilot after trading in our 07 pilot. Love the new one! It drives really nice as we took it to Hershey and SC this summer.
