Please help me I'm drowning. He's just received way too many toys. I feel like I'm in a department store that kids were able to randomnly open presents & leave all of the pieces on the floor.

I'm thinking if I string up some sort of pulley system on the ceiling, we won't have to step on them.

Help! Help! No, no...you can't open playdoh in your bed!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ANd how can we get rid of anything since its stuff the baby will eventually want to play with? Its pure torture. I tried to get rid of the frickin Doodle bear but my DD found it and its baaaaack. Sure they can use the markers elsewhere (and usually try to) and sure it needs to be thrown in the wash after every 10 minutes of use but at least it doesnt make noise. Chat Icon

Re: Toy Hell

We have the same predicament! (sp?) When we moved into a bigger house last year, we thought it would get better..no luck! However, we have implemented a rule that has really helped. We explained to DS (DD is only 19 months, still too young for explaining) that there are poor children who don't have any toys to play with. Every time he gets a new toy, before he opens it he has to choose one toy to give to "Mickelina." (She is the name we have given to the poor child who is getting his toys.) Since SHE doesn't have any toys, she appreciates all the toys that we give her. At first, it was VERY difficult to force DS to choose a toy to give away. Now, he knows the rule, and he generally chooses something and brings it to me as soon as he gets something new. (Unfortunately, the new toys tend to be bigger, noisier, etc. than the ones he chooses to give away!)

We generally put the toys in storage until there are several of them, then donate them to a women's shelter. Everyone wins that way.

What a great idea!! DS is learning to think of other people, and I'm sure the shelter you donate to appreciates the toys! I love this idea.
