 People Mag this week
It's a sad commentary on where priorities are when ANGELINA takes a headline over the miners in West Virginia. I'm a little disappointed. Maybe I will email People mag.

 Re: People Mag this week
I completely agree. And I really could not believe that when Britney kissed Madonna it was braking news on CNN. I was like what is this world coming too?

I agree, it is sad. I think they felt the need to put Angelina on the cover since every other mag this week will have her on the cover and they need to compete.

 Re: People Mag this week
I always considered People Mag as an entertainment/celebrity magazine so I am not surprised at all.

I agree... what did surprise me was CNN's coverage of this story.

 Re: People Mag this week
Unfortunately, the "news" caters to that element in our society. Whether Paris's ring is real or not is infinitely more important to this ignorant element than the global implications of the debt in Africa or human rights violations in China
Time magazine has the lowest subscription base ever yet all of the trashy, no-brain gossip rags have booming subscription bases.
Really shows our society's lack of intelligence and our ignorant, selfish priorities.

 Re: People Mag this week
Then again, maybe with all the IN-YOUR-FACE reporting of major events, catastrophies, etc. people just need a break and a laugh. Who wants reality all the time? (This is also why I don't get the appeal of reality shows.)
I thought People Magazine was supposed to be more about PEOPLE than about 'famous' PEOPLE. But alas, I guess demand equals supply.
  Poor miners.
BTW: they did get a story, just not the headline.

 Re: People Mag this week
Hey, entertainment serves a purpose!! I admit it. When I read People Magazine (which is only in Dr. office), I am looking for entertainment. When I watch CNN or read a newspaper, I am looking for news.
As for celebrity rags, my friend works for US weekly so I get the scoop directly from her. They are total crap- but they definitely serve an entertainment purpose.

True, true. As much as I pooh-pooh it sometimes, I will admit I was reading People at the hairdresser's last night. It is mindless and passes the time while I sit under the dryer with tinfoil on my head. I am not really looking for intellectual stimulation at that particular time.
What was Jeff Goldblum's line from The Big Chill? "People magazine articles are the length of time the average person spends taking a ____..."
