Classes before the baby is born
I was just looking at the website of the hospital where I will be delivering and see that they offer some classes to expecting parents such as lamaze, breastfeeding, baby care, etc.
Has anyone taken classes and which ones and do you think they were informative.

Re: Classes before the baby is born
I thought childbirth class was super informative. I thought it wouldn't help, but I learned a lot and DH And I left with a soup to nuts understanding of labor signs, terms that I had no idea of, the tour of the hospital, what the pediatrician does afterwards, how to recover, his role, what exactly an epidural is, what being induced is, what goes into the c section etc..... It was great and I met some new friends! The babycare class was good but not a must have, imo. The real thing I learned was spend a lot of time choosing a great pediatrician and trust the hell out of him/her!!!!! YOu will be living with your pediatrician in that first year.

This is the class that is offered at the hospital where I will be delivering. Does it sound like the class you took?

Lamaze Childbirth Preparation: experienced nurses who are certified Lamaze instructors teach this program. This series of six classes familiarizes parents with the childbirth process from labor and delivery through postpartum, and includes a tour of the unit. Cesarean birth, medication, and complications are also discussed. The techniques of relaxation, breathing, and pushing are taught to new expectant parents.

Re: Classes before the baby is born
Yes- thats the one. Only we took the condensed one or two day version offered by the hospital. But I walked out feeling like I can actively participate in the birth process and make decisions or assist the doctor in making the decisions. I also understand about the needs of the baby in the first few minutes of life. I think the lamaze is helpful as well- from a relaxation standpoint. WHat hospital are you delivering at?

Re: Classes before the baby is born
I thought that Infant CPR was worth taking. It scared me, but at least I am a bit more prepared if something happens.

Re: Classes before the baby is born
Although we live in Chappaqua, I'm actually giving birth in the city at Cornell-New York Hospital. The hospital we took the classes in was Northern Westchester in Mount Kisco.
