"Tot Finder" stickers in case of fire - do you have?

Do most of you have those tot finder stickers on your kid's bedroom windows?

I cannot get over how difficult it is to find these! I went to my local fire dept, they don't have them, they sent me to a cop store, they don't have them either! I guess I will buy online, but then I saw these new indoor ones, anyone have these as well? Indoor stickers

If you do have the ones for windows, where did you buy them?

WE have one, in Andrew's room (faces the front of the house)... Andrew got it at School back in October, when they had Fire Prevention Week. The local FD came to their school and gave them a packet with a bunch of stuff, including the stickers. I'd definitley go to a FD and ask again.

FIL went to our local FD and asked for them. They no longer give them out.Chat Icon Turns out a lot of people put them on the windows and never remove them if they move or do internal renovations so a lot of windows that have them are no longer a bedroom of a child.

I should ask at my Dad's FD.

Re: "Tot Finder" stickers in case of fire - do you have?

no, my local group def does not have them.

I can see how the stickers wouldn't always be accurate, but I'm thinking they're still better than the interior ones. What if there's a kid upstairs and you can't see the sticker from when the firefighter comes into the house? It just seems more logical that they will go around the outside of the house first and determine what's going on, who's where, etc.

Re: "Tot Finder" stickers in case of fire - do you have?

I think I am too security conscious! I did want to get the stickers a while ago but then I started thinking about all the crazies in the world. Do I really want to point out that there's a child in a room? Of course, with a fire I would but I don't want people creeping around the outside of my house and seeing that I have a child sleeping in any particular room. Maybe I'm nuts!Chat Icon

not nuts, I wondered the same thing. But I have a security alarm that we just got installed and use all the time so that puts my worries at ease!

so for those that have them already, are you just using the outdoor window ones? Or do you have the indoor ones too?

We've been thinking about getting an alarm. Do you have ADT? Any recommendations? Thanks

Re: "Tot Finder" stickers in case of fire - do you have?

Teri - You can use them but there is a host of reasons why they really don't recommend them. I know from DH when I asked him about them. The FD is trained for a very specific plan of action when it comes to a fire of any kind, depending on the building. For them to focus on rooms that have the sticker could waste valuable time for where the fire actually is - plus the child could be out of the room already, cowering in the master bedroom or bathroom that has no sticker. Also people convert rooms into offices, switch rooms etc. and if the sticker is a PITA to take off or hard to get to, sometimes it stays on. To the FD, the stickers don't really provide added value as to where the children are actually located. Plus what was mentioned upthread flagging strangers as to what room a child sleeps in.

HTH

ETA: I cannot believe people are selling them on ebay! Most FD give these away free (if in supply) - shame on those people!

Liz - thanks, I was waiting to see if you responded here Chat Icon

I was really surprised you had to buy these stickers anywhere, I figured if anything, the FD would give them away! But I guess if they're no longer thrilled with them why bother.

Hmmm, now I am wondering if I should botherChat Icon We had one in Em's room but now that Sarah's here I wanted another.

Re: "Tot Finder" stickers in case of fire - do you have?

I wanted to add that when the FD visited DS school- the fireman stated that the window ones are no longer rec'd or given out-

The ones they now use go on the door and/or door jams inside the home only!

We don't. We live on a main road & the last thing I want is people knowng which rooms my kids sleep in.

Who am I kidding. They crawl into our bed...Chat Icon
