Torticollis?

I know this has been addressed before, but I'm just wondering, if you suspected your DC possibly had torticollis, how you went about getting it diagnosed? Did you bring it up to your ped first, or contact EI, contact PT? I'm positive my DD is dealing with this and when I brought it up to her ped at her 2mo apt, my concerns were basically dismissed and I stupidly forgot to bring it up at her 4mo apt (that's what happens when it's a 430pm apt on a Fri and you're coming from a full week of work...) I don't want to wait until her 6mo apt to have her checked out, I feel like it's getting worse everyday and waiting another 1.5 mo until her next apt is a bad idea. I'm just not sure where to start. I figure I'm going to call the ped today to see if I can at least talk to the Dr, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should do?

My situation with ds was a bit different. The Dr and i agreed there was an issue going on. She gave me a prescription paper that said eval for PT on it. personally I didn't want to wait for EI to come so I brought him to a private pediatric pt since it was covered by my insurance. She evaluated him and said if I were to have gone though EI he wouldn't have qualified anyway. It was that minor but still necessary to fix.

In your situation I would just call the EI office and request an evaluation. You don't need anything from your pediatrician.

Good luck. It's typically an easy thing to correct with some exercises and minor lifestyle changes.

I spoke with ped when DD was about 1 month old (I think she was 3 wks old). I told him I believed she had torticollis. He agreed with me and gave us the PT referral on the spot. She receives PT 1x per week now.

If I were you, I would not wait. Torticollis is correctable, but the earlier tx begins, the better. Ask your ped for a referral for a PT evaluation.

DD has improved remarkably since we began.

We brought it up to the ped first. He showed us some strecthes to do with the baby since he said that is what the PT would be doing as well. We still contacted a PT right after because we wanted to make sure we were doing everything we could. Then a few weeks later I brought DS in to the ped again for a sick visit and I saw another ped and he mentioned EI to us. I called later that day to get the process started and until we got approved and those services started, we continued seeing a private PT.
