Torn meniscus

Anyone ever deal with one?

What's the recovery from surgery like. Will I be able to take care of my kids?

Thanks! I've been putting this off for years but my knee has been locking and giving out way to much

Re: Torn meniscus

I don't have any personal experience with this but a woman I work with just had the surgery. She was in a leg brace for 10 days and then in a soft removable wrap w bars to keep her leg stable. She was out of commission for about 2 weeks.
While you have the brace, it would be hard for you to take care of the kids. You would be sitting with leg straight out.

Unless there's another way of doing it, I just know what she just did.

Torn meniscus

I had surgery for a torn Mencius--the MRI did not show the full extent of the damage and my surgery was more complicated than anticipated. I was on crutches for two weeks. There is no way I could have cared for my dd (if I had her at the time) for the first two weeks. The first 3-4 days I was in bed with my leg elevated. Following the surgery I had PT for awhile- it took me a couple of months to get back to my normal routine.

Torn meniscus

I was walking the same day.
My surgery was 2001
I was on crutches for 2 weeks and in PT by week 3
out of work 6 weeks.

ETA: I have never been back to normal.

My idiotic doctor ripped into my knee without an MRI to see the damage only using an old MRI to guess the damage. He also didn't factor in my hyper extension normal status or my natural bow legged curve so he made me un-even. He lied about the damage in my knee and blew me off for months. I had Physical therapy for 3yrs. 3 times a week for an hour each session. I am still wearing orthotics. I was only able to fire him as my doctor after I finally sent a certified letter to him demanding explanation with copy to the state, workers compensation board and 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund. He stated he didn't have a 'magic wand' to make it all better and that I was 'never going to get better' and I would 'just have to grow up and live with the pain'.

My new doc, Stephen Fealy at the hospital of special surgery was a god-send. Made things much more manageable and reduced my pain, suffering and gave me the ability to walk again without a limp.

My claim closed with a permanent disability that's to the first whack job. But hey.. a simple surgery gone wrong. *sigh* I realize he just didn't do his job. Nice, famous, Jewish doctor in a Jewish neighborhood who told me he was famous and important and world renowned. I can't even remember this name anymore. Ugh

The longer you wait the worse it is going to be when you finally get surgery- that was my mistake. Have you tried PT recently- at least you can get some relief from the stretching, massage, etc.
