top soil re-grading????
has anyone done this?
how labor-intensive is it?
how expensive?
do you have to get rid of your landscaping when you do this?
our inspector said we should do this to keep water draining away from the house and keep it out of the basement. although, we don't need it RIGHT NOW, i want to start preparing for it.

Re: top soil re-grading????
We didn't need to re-grade, we just wanted a new lawn so we rented a roto-tiller & did it ourselves. Then we raked it out & of course we had another snow storm so as soon as it melts we'll put down new seed.

Re: top soil re-grading????
We did it last summer. Our landscaper did it in a few hours. They had 5 guys working! We have a little less than 1/3 of an acre and it cost us $2,000 for grading, top soil and seed. We got a little break on the price because we paid cash and we did it at the end of the season. We didn't have any "landscaping" per se so we didn't have to remove anything. This year hopefully I will grow a green thumb and start planting stuff.

Re: top soil re-grading????
ok, this is do-able.
maybe at the end of the summer we can get it done. this means i'm going to have to re-do our lawn... not as bad as i imagined it could be.
thanks

Re: top soil re-grading????
I suggest the end of the summer only because who wants to have a yard full of dirt during the summer?! And for some reason, toward the fall the prices are cheaper???? Although, because we did it at the end of the summer, I don't think the grass came in as thick and lush as it might have if we did it in spring. So this year we have to do a few treatments of fertilizer and what not to get it in really great shape.
...Unless you put sod down but I had my landscaper quote that too and it was 3 times the price. DH didn't even consider it. It was seed or nothing so seed is what we did.
