Too much water may inhibit breast milk

I know a lot of people say to drink a ton of water to increase breast milk supply, but too much water can inhibit breast milk production.

This was one of the misconceptions I had that all my lactation nurses corrected me on. Just thought I would pass on what I learned.

Here is an brief article about increasing ones supply and it mentions it: Water

From the article: "A breastfeeding mom doesn't have to drink or eat more than she needs. But she does need to be well hydrated and fed in order to produce enough milk. Drinking too much water might actually decrease production, 8 to 9 cups a day should be enough."

Yes I read this too somewhere. I am glad you posted this because when a new mom comes on people keep saying drink lots of water and I'm the only one who says otherwise!

thank you this is good for me because i tend to drink too much water - i try to only drink 9 glasses of water a day but sometims i drnk like 16 and that doesn't count thee 2 liters of crystal light or diet coke i drink a day
