Toddlers eating A LOT
DS #1 is 21 months, lately he's been eating A LOT...almost adult size portions of food. DH and I are becoming concerned, part of it is because we've both struggled with our weight our entire lives. Now his daycare provider has expressed some concern. I swear it's almost like he' never satified. So far he is proportionate in height and weight, but definitely has a big gut, but that's normal for toddlers still right? He's been in th 95th percentile or more his entire life. He's the height and weight of a 3 yr old basically. The ped said at his last well visit that as long as he's proportionate she's not concerned, but his last well visit was at 18 months.
Have any of you experienced this with your toddler?
Are DH & I just overly concerned for nothing?
Any advice?
TIA

DS is almost 2.5 years and lately he eats a lot! like will have a meal and ask for another. i think he's just getting more active. i wouldn't be concerned unless he's gaining a lot of weight. the activity should outweigh the food intake.

DS is a ball of activity...always running around.

Re: Toddlers eating A LOT
My son is 2 and is like that. He seriously eats like a grown man. He also is on the big side but proportionate - tall and "solid"! At his 18 month visit, we were told that his weight was perfectly fine. His 2 year-old visit is next week and I plan on asking again.
I just try to give him as much healthy food as I can and limit the sweets. I also limit the snacking because he woulc eat all day long if I let him. I also get him outside a lot to try to run around - LOL!

Thanks ladies
He really would eat all day if we let him. He's a moose and just always has been, but lately his food portions have really increased. I'm going to ask the ped for sure.

Re: Toddlers eating A LOT
I'd ask the ped. My DS goes in waves where he'll eat a ton, then eat barely anything for a while (he's 40" now, but has always been off the charts for height but hanging in at 75% weight, so a skinny string bean). I think so long as he is maintaining the same curve for height/weight (not becoming a much larger % for weight), they'll tell you not to worry, but may suggest going to fat free milk and substituting more fruits and veggies if you aren't already.
