Toddler who drinks ALL DAY LONG
Jack is obssessed with anything liquid. Shakes, AppleJuice (90% Water/10%Juice) and Milk. He drinks all day long.
What do you do about this when starting to potty train? Even tonight before bed he had a half a cup of juice and a full cup of milk. He went to bed begging me for more apple juice.
I'm worried he will never be potty trained - or worse - I will be living with him in the bathroom because he will have to go every five minutes.
Do you always give them something when they are thirsty? What can I do about this?

If he asks he gets and with all meals...we just put him on the potty every hour. And now....he is starting to tell us when he has to pee so it absolutely can work out. Don't worry!
If you figure out poop...let me know

Re: Toddler who drinks ALL DAY LONG
We had a similar issue with my DD. She's not a milk drinker and at the time not a juice drinker, she'd chug water all day long!! She'd go to bed with a sippy of water before being potty trained.
We started telling her that she had to drink what she wanted with dinner and that was it. No more drinks other than a few sips of water before bed. It was a transition buts she's fine with it now. I still find I have to limit her drinks during the day for nap time and long trips to avoid accidents. We just talk about it beforehand and explain why and she listens (most of the time!!)

Re: Toddler who drinks ALL DAY LONG
A toddler that drinks alot will make the potty training process go alot faster!
He will be a quick learner ! I remember asking my kids to keep drinking - so they would get the hang of going to the bathroom on their own alot quicker!
If the kid is thirsty - definitely give him a drink

I never limited Ella's liquid intake. In fact when she was first trained, she was still having milk right before bed. I always put her on the potty before she went to bed, and I'd take her on again before WE went to bed (she would practically sleep through the whole thing).

Re: Toddler who drinks ALL DAY LONG
We have a nutritionist who comes every 6 weeks. She told me that his drinking was leading to less of a food appetite.. She wanted us to keep it at 12 oz's of water/juice a day and 16-24 oz's of milk.
We dont follow that as a hard rule or anything, but I do notice he eats less if he has more to drink.
As far as potty training, I'm refusing t think of it, he is gonna potty train himself b/c I'm too lazy/overwhelemed to even think about it. LOL

I def. notice that he eats more now that I cut down his milk intake. He still gets a ton of juice though!

Re: Toddler who drinks ALL DAY LONG
he may go frequently in the the beginning but he'll get some control down and will be totally fine. ds drinks 8-10 oz. before bed and still manages to be dry in the morning these days, they just "get it" when they're ready.

Re: Toddler who drinks ALL DAY LONG
I don't limit water intake. Milk is 1 cup a day, and if we do juice it's 10/90 like you said and it's once a day. Potty training will be what it will be. I think hydration is too important

Re: Toddler who drinks ALL DAY LONG
Great question-- DD is such a huge water drinker, she uses her cup all day long.
I wonder how it will work with potty training, since she drinks A LOT with her dinner especially.
I also wonder how it will work in preschool....I'm thinking she'll only have access to her cup during snack-times probably She will NOT be happy about that.
