Toddler swearing- how to stop
DS is 21 months and is dropping the F Bomb everywhere, and very appropriately too.
It just started a few days ago, but he must do it about 100 times per day. He falls, he drops about 4-5 F Bombs. He drops his cup, spews 4-5 F Bombs, etc.
Do we just ignore? What can we do? TIA!!!
(BTW: I am not happy who he picked it up from, but I can't change the past.)

Ignore it!!
Also when you do something where he would drop the F-bomb say something silly so he doesn't associate dropping a cookie with oh F.

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
At this age you just ignore it....
Ariel used to say "Oh $hit" a lot...I never did figure out who she picked that up from.. ...
I exchanged the word in my vocabulary for something else..I cant remember what it was..and started over using it. She quickly picked up on the new word and we soon got rid of the "oh $hit"...

Ignore it- TOTALLY. I swear, if they even sense a change in the atmosphere, they take it as positive reinforcement and will continue it.

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
I would just ignore it at this point...
But, I'm sorry I have to because picturing your Michael shouting out f*ck several times after he falls is just pushing me over the edge!

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
I'd find a new fun word to use in it's place. We use a very dramatic "UH-OH" or "gadzooks"
I had to eliminate "CR@P" from DD's vocabulary which we did by us using the fun, silly words dramatically and enthusiastically in place of the word we wanted to eliminate.
DH was admiring DD's curls the other day and said "Look at those curls...Daaaaaammmmnn!"
Now she's saying it about anything she thinks so cool so I'm trying to replace it with "Holy Cow" or "Wow-za" which she seems to think is just as funny to say.
Most important, don't laugh and try to ignore. Ask everyone else to do the same.

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
Sorry I have to
But I would totally ignore it. If you make a big deal out of it he will continue to do it. DS says "sh-it" here and there and he repeated the f-bomb last night after DH said it

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
I have to laugh a little, though I know it's not funny to you. I would also be secretly THRILLED if DS picked up a word, he only has 3 at 18 months, and I'm slightly concerned. Even the f word would be great progress for him.
Anyway, I would ignore it. If there is much of a reaction, he'll probably keep doing it. I think he's 20-21 months right? So probably a little young to explain that this is not a nice word, though you can try if you want.
Also, talk to whoever uses it a lot in front of him, that needs to stop.

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
I have also heard that capturing it on video and posting it on LIF will make put an end to it too.

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
DD says s hit ALL the time! She totally gets it from me. She uses it correctly too Like she'll drop something and say "oh s hit" In the beginning I would tell her to stop saying it and then I started ignoring it since she doesn't realize what she is saying. I'm hoping she'sll stop eventually!

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
Well my son picked up 'Oh S hit" and at first we tried ignoring it but since he continued it and we need him to repeat other words often I would say "ok honey sit down" or if we are in the car " you are sitting". I tried to think of what other things it could sound like. After a few days of this he stopped. For the f bomb, you could try "truck"

Re: Toddler swearing- how to stop
Ignore it and keep him away from whoever is cursing. NO ONE is allowed to curse in front of my DS. I learned my lesson early. A long time ago (he is 21 mos now) when he first started talking and repeating he was in his pnp in the kitchen and i was in the dining room and tripped and said "oh ****" really loud - the WHOLE day he repeated. luckily at that age he forgot it soon after when he never heard it again.
i think if you don't react at all and DS never hears the word again it will stop. Not hearing it again though is key - i notice DS picks up everything - he has these little "lines" that are identical to ones DH and I say.

I will send him over to your house. He will talk your ear off. Most of it is non-sense.

Thanks! Maybe he can teach DS a new word (then I'll see how thrilled I'll be)!
