toddler repeating things over and over and OVER?

my ds (20 months) says things over and over again like a million times.
like "i want..... please", "Bailey (dog) go eat bone", "balls in the tunnel", i always say yes, there are balls in the tunnel or respond to what he says but he just keeps repeating it over and over. it makes me batty!

is this normal for his age? when does it stop?

thanks!

ugg you too.. our DS says "Daddy......Daddy......Daddy.....Daddy....you get the drift over and over meanwhile we are saying "Yes?"he repeats other thing over and over. I think its a stage. Our DS is older (2) he was talking fine then this. Soooo annoying!

You mean like "Elmo mo, Elmo mo, Elmo mo, Elmo mo...." all day long?
I think it's just as normal as it is annoying Chat Icon

It is cute though....for the first 5 minutes.

Re: toddler repeating things over and over and OVER?

Does it say it appropriately or just randomly without the real meaning behind it? For example does he say the same sentence/words while reading books, eating, etc... when it's not what he should be saying?

My daughter went through a phase like that around that age.

One time, I told her there were people in the buildings when we were looking out our window. She kept saying "people burning" over and over again. I think she was trying to perfect her saying of it. Chat Icon

it's always appropriate. it's like he's so excited to be able to say what he wasnts to that he just keeps repeating it. don't get me wrong, i'm thrilled that he's talking so much but this repeating can get old and i want to make sure it's "normal".

usually 3-4 sentences unless he adds a 'mommy' or a 'please' in there. he knows lots of phrases and just adds the appropriate word into the phrase. i love hearing him talk but sometimes he just doesn't stop!

this reminded me of a time we took dave's 2 nephews' to dorney park (a 45 minute drive) and his younger nephew - maybe 4 at the time kept SINGING, 'EASTER BUNNY'S COMING TONIGHT'.

I kid you not - he sung this no less than 200 times... Dave & I still joke about it....(keep in mind - this was in August)...

I would not worry about it then. I know you are not happy with the SLP so I can't recommend talking to her/him. That would be the person I would ask.
