Toddler Opening Birthday Presents?

Tomorrow is DD's 2nd birthday party with kids (small family gathering next weekend). There will be 16 kids attending and that means lots of presents. We're not opening any presents at the party location and will be taking them all home with us. I have no experience with this -- Do I let her open a few of the gifts and then put the rest away down the basement? When would you bring up the rest? For good behavior? Open to suggestions! Thanks!

I let her open everything. She will gravitate towards her favorites and I let her open a few. The rest I'll put in the basement and reintroduce them when she gets bored of the other stuff.
Comes in handy on snow days!

Agreed! Plus, it makes it easier to do thank you cards doing it all at one time.

She always opened everything and played with it right away. I have no basement and I couldn’t deny her her gifts if she wanted to play with them .

I would definitely open everything right away and decide from there what you want to do. I've found that friends didn't give all that many toys. There are usually a combo of gift cards, books, craft supplies, clothes and a few toys mixed in.

My daughter opens everything. She turned three last month and got very few toys at her party. She received mostly clothes, accessories and books.

I let him open everything and play with one or two. The rest get put away. He has way tooooo many toys. Plays with them for 5 minutes than is done. I wish people wouldn't waste their $.

We open everything, and then put away the ones she doesn't gravitate to. I a,ways writer personalized thank yous so I need to know what everybody gave. And that pile of gifts is sort of a big deal when you're a kid - no matter how anti-materialistic we try to make our kids.
