Toddler and nightmares?
My 2 1/2 year old DS has been afraid of the cookie monster for about a year. It was under control with no outbursts until last week, when he saw two of his male cousins (who are 9 and 10 YEARS old) and they were teasing him about the CM, saying daddy can't help you, he is in your room ,he is going to get you, cursing, etc. Now my DS has not slept in 6 days, he is up all night, refuses naps, etc. it is changing his whole personality, and making him cranky, fussy, etc. He was telling me and DH bits of this story, but we weren't clear on what was said, but today my other nieces who were there told me the whole story. What can I do? Has anyone dealt with this before? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Toddler and nightmares?
how terrible, I would just keep reassuring him that there is nothing to be afraid of
also, I think my sister suggested this to me, or maybe it was someone on here, when DD was "afraid" of things in her room
I would spray "monster spray" (aka febreeze) all over the room, I would even let her spray it...it seemed to help

I would be livid and honestly, they are old enough for you to talk to them about it, they should NOT have said that, who says that to a baby
my heart hurts for him

Re: Toddler and nightmares?
Thank you! I am livid, but also just so upset. We tell these boys every time they are with my DS to remember he is only 2, that he is afraid of CM, all of that. This one time we didn't mention anything b/c it was a quick visit. UUUGH!!! I'm leaving it up to my DH to talk to his sisters about this - he is def going to be very upset when I tell him tonight. Thanks again for your support and kind words.

no problem, it is tough trying to explain to a 2.5 year old that cookie monster is a "nice monster" who just loves cookies
my dd was afraid of everything for a while (the closet, her clothes, the humidifier, etc)
I think she was using it more as an excuse to not go to sleep but it is tough when they are so upset
try the monster spray....

Re: Toddler and nightmares?
ehhh that makes me so angry at those boys. Do you think maybe their mom can talk to them and they can call your DC and tell them there is no cookie monster?
