today's IUI
i triggered yesterday morning and went this morning for the IUI. DH's count dropped again (19 million first IUI cycle, 9 million last cycle, and 4.5 this morning). he was really upset because he has been so careful about not having even a glass of wine at night, getting good sleeps, staying away from sick people, etc.
anyone know what might affect count like this?
they gave us a referral to a urologist to follow up. i'm not sure i have any reason to be optimistic this cycle because they're always saying he needs 5 million for it to be worth it. and after reading that other thread about IUI timing, I feel like the scheduling at RSofNY is hurting our chances of getting pg.
ETA: i just read this on that website posted by bringonthebaby:
Q: How long does washed sperm live?
A: Current research indicates that washed sperm can live 24-72 hours; however, it does lose potency after 24 hours. Another issue with IUI is that the sperm can keep on swimming beyond the fallopian tube, so the ideal window is really within 6-12 hours of the egg being released, with a larger margin before ovulation than after since the egg's viability is shorter. Sperm can live up to 5 days in fertile mucus, 2-3 days being pretty common, so combining IUI with intercourse may provide better coverage.
so that's comforting. plus we're doing some for back-up!

Re: today's IUI
When did you last BD before the IUI? When my DH's washed sperm count was low it was because we BD'd only a day and a half before the IUI. His post-wash count was like 2.9 million with 100 percent motility. The next time we BD'd 2 1/2 days before, and that along with Fertilaid gave him a post-wash count of I think like 113 million with 90 percent motility. There was nothing wrong with his sperm...we were just one of those couples that despite good counts, it was not wise to BD too close to the IUI.
As for the IUI timing, as you can see, the research is all over the place on how long washed sperm lasts. I would not worry as plenty of people seem to have success with doing IUI's at the 24 hour mark. GL to you!!

When did you last BD before the IUI?
we thursday afternoon, IUI on saturday morning, so a little over 1 day and a 1/2. it can be tough to time things right because he's not supposed to have saved for too long in order to have healthy swimmers...but you never know what they're going to say at that monitoring appt. in this case, they triggered me right away after the sono. i was surprised.
i had heard about fertilaid. do you think it really helps? that seems like a pretty great boost in numbers.

You know what....it easily could be your BD timing. I only BD'd when I did the first time because DH had good counts...and this is what happened to me.
As for whether Fertalaid works...I am going to say that there really is no other explanation for the results from DH's first SA to the one they took on the day of our 2nd IUI. Original SA- 201 total count, 53.1 concentration. 2nd analysis-404.3 total count, 161.7 concentration. Test taken with Same # of days before testing. I'm telling you...I was shocked when the Dr. told me DH's washed count after having had only 2.9 million the first time.
Anyway...BTW..I saw a lady get pregnant with only 500,000 post wash!!! Your DH's post-wash count is respectable!!
